It’s partially up to XF developers to make sure the software is as good as it can be SEO-wise. I’m not saying it’s completely their fault. This is mainly a three sided thing. Google, XF and admins. But there’s only so much an admin can do. I do wonder, when’s the last time we saw some SEO updates done to XF?

2.3 I think.

This isn't a SEO issue. Is just Google.
 
I have an article that comes top of all the same topic articles. I backlinked it a lot. And also set it out with SEO in mind for snippets - design of article - placement of photos etc. Large headings - easy to follow layout. Careful wording of first sentence.

Same, but with WordPress is easier, but it isn't impossible with Xenforo. Is just Google.

Sep 14, 2024: 2.4 Coming Soon! And will be released between Oct '24 and Mar '25

Nov 26, 2024: The first 2.4 HYS

Apr 02, 2025: "Typical" development hurdles, but [release] getting very close

Apr 05, 2025: The latest(last?) 2.4 HYS

7.5 mths since first first HYS, and 2 mths since we're told a release is very close, and not even a beta release yet ( for 2.3, was 3.5 mths between beta and release )

3.0:
Sep 20, 2023: New style will introduce unresolvable backward-compatibility issues, so will be in 3.0 ( instead of 2.3 )

Sep 27, 2023: After 2.3 is 3.0, it's all about the completely new style

Oct 10, 2023: Will be a much smaller upgrade compared to 1.5 to 2.0

Sep 18, 2024: Will only require people to start fresh on styles and template modifications, existing add-ons expected to work ( with template modifications )

Apr 13, 2025: It isn't ready

21 mths since 3.0 was pushed back to after 2.3, and no ETA for release or HYS




How many times are we going to be told that release cycles will be better ( between 2.2 and 2.3, we were told first dot point would be approx every 6 mths and contain smaller improvements ). The 2.4 release ( with a new editor and some quality-of-life improvements ) will be longer than the 2.3 release cycle. And 3.0 is already approx. 2 years since it was mooted with only a new style that wouldn't break add-ons.

XF have added new/more developers since 2.2, but it appears to have only slowed down development and/or majorly adjusted development cycle intention/thinking. With very poor communication, who knows really? XF very recently filed company ownership change documents for the mix/percentage of ownership, perhaps this suggests the cause of it all?
 
XenForo offers a product for what it is, and they’re not obligated (as far as I know) to provide you with future versions. Whatever they say about possible upcoming releases is obviously coming from a company standpoint, and there’s a marketing strategy behind it, so it shouldn’t be taken literally. It’s up to you as a customer to decide what you want to do with your life: whether to wait or look for another option. Pointing fingers doesn’t change the situation.

From my experience, I would say that this is incorrect.

Definitely more nuanced than what you say.

It is a Google issue - and depending on the exact pages (and searches) compared, you can often see forum threads beat WordPress articles (even with good on-page/site SEO for WP). Even if the WP page has more, higher quality backlinks!

Having said that, comparing those is no longer important. Google (as the still by far the most popular search engine for pages and videos) is directin 90% of the traffic to Reddit, a few other corporate sites (and "social networks"), and YouTube.

Doubtful, that is just the date the documents were filed. The register dates are from years ago, 2018 and 2021, probably when Ashley resigned and Mike stepped back.

But speculate...

Looks to me like the shares between Mike and Kier were changed, which happened a while back. Unless Mike was receiving ongoing compensation, and the clock on that ran out recently, I'd imagine it's like @Gemma said, that the paperwork was just now being filed.
