XF 2.4 general discussion, feedback, complaints, random off topic posts, etc.

Chris is referring to keeping the full toolbar when in bbcode mode, not getting rid of bbcode.

The functionality will be the same as it is now - the full toolbar when in normal mode, no toolbar when in bbcode mode.
Interesting...
That sounds like he's gone with the basic toolbar in tiptap.
Had a bit of a read of it on tiptap's site over the weekend.
👏👏👏

Tiptap whiteboard — whether collaborative or not — would be a welcomed feature. I hope that the implementation of Tiptap would allow 3rd party developers to add this ability with an extension if that wasn't planned.

Sometimes you need to draw your ideas out for others to understand better. For example, explaining Xenforo architecture with the addition of more info in a reply as a use-case for example...

I think 24+ months for 3.0 would be fine, as long as we fill the gap with 2.4, 2.5, 2.6, 2.7 and so on.

That's by no means a desirable outcome for us, nor what we're planning, but that would be a significant improvement over 2.2 to 2.3, no?

@Chris D - For the new TipTap editor, are we going to be harnessing the AI feature or the collaborative feature?

Not sure how this would be used for a forum. But since I don't use XenForo for communities or forums, I would be really interested in seeing what this looks like. Thanks for all your hard work!

I think the point I would most like to make is if AI features are available, we won't be paying for them :)

You'll have to have your own Tiptap Pro License if we theoretically ever make that functionality available.

But at this time, the AI features are beyond the scope and currently somewhat undefined. We will keep additional extensions in mind with a view to hopefully making it easy(ish) for admins to include the official / Pro extensions we aren't including.

TipTap has content AI and they have the TipTap Pro license for the editor itself. Can you clarify if the TipTap implementation of only the editor would include the pro extensions? I.e. use of the Mathematics extension for example: https://tiptap.dev/docs/editor/extensions/overview

Love this idea.
Don't rush any of them out.
We don't want to have heaps of bugs that it makes you and your crew really embarrassed.
Reckon with 2.4 you could start by showing us the new editor, then show us how to use the new features.

Ultimately I would be surprised if people even need to use BB code mode anymore.

What do you feel the use case for keeping it is?
It is quite important if you have custom (block) bb-codes when they interacts badly with invisible alignment formatting in html as XF's html to bb-code just doesn't handle this well. This is an impedance miss-match between html and bb-code which I don't see being fixed by the editor

There are a bunch of open bug reports where you can completely screw up a post if you mix some alignment and block bb-codes, and trying to unbreak it requires either bb-code mode or copy out to notepad to strip formatting and back again.

I'm not. Why? People love to get to use the actual thing. Gifs are always cool to use. When you use the whole thing you need the support just in case they suffer a stuffed up gif.
Did I end up an alternate universe or what. I also completely agree (for the first time ever) with Suz.
First with @Paul B, now with Suz. What's next?

Will 2.4 or 3.0 have an integrated feed like What's New that shows all posts in one list (forum, profile, gallery, resources, etc.) instead of in separate widgets? Similar to All Activity of course, but with read/unread marking and more of a "title" list instead of actions, so more like What's New. If something like this is in the works could you drop a hint? Thank you!

I really do not get this community some times 🙃.

First, they complained about communication, so when you started communicating more, they started getting upset about transparency... When you were transparent about a delay caused by a medical emergency, they get upset and criticize you.

They complain about the development pace... So, you guys change your development schedule to prioritize faster and leaner updates... But now they're upset that you're possibly delaying an update that really only brings a new style, and would cause another big update by style and mod authors... Most of which likely do not care or if they do, they'd prefer to do it later than sooner 🙃.

What really gets me is, rather than pandering and not changing, the XF team has literally enacted changes on all the criticism they have gotten, more so than I have ever seen from any other forum software. Yet people still act like petty children.

It could be a case of the people that are happy aren't commenting (complaining) as much here. Seeing a faster dev pace and more updates is fantastic. (y)

TipTap will be an awesome modern addition. I really hope they keep it as close to stock as possible and without new styling, so it can be extended or customized like a normal TipTap instance.
