XenZine Articles [Deleted]

The attachments get added to the article and removed from the thread (they are then associated to the article). You can add new attachments to a published / unpublished article, to remove attachments from an existing published article, you can use the ACP attachment manager

I am probably going to show myself as a numpty.

I am following the instructions here on xenforo 1.2

  • Go to ACP -> Add-ons -> Install Add-on -> Install from file on server
  • Install from file on server: "library/XenZine/addon-xenZineArticles.xml"

and having checked all the files are in the correct place.. (I have installed ad ons before)

Error
Please enter a valid file name. The requested file could not be read.

When i try and add the xml from the computer

Error
The files associated with this add-on could not be found. Please upload them and try again.

It sounds like the files are not in the correct location

go to your FTP manager, you should have the files set up like this:

/www/library/XenZine/addon-xenZineArticles.xml
/www/js/xenzine/

The zip is organised in such a way that you can extract the zip, open the upload folder and copy the folders directly into your xenforo installation root

upload> js to xenforo's js folder
upload> library to xenforo's library folder

If you need help, PM me and I can set this up for you

Is it possible for you to send me a screen shot of your FTP folder structure, something that tells me the location of your files, like this:

ftp.webp

And then also, show what is in

/www/library/

Just to confirm, this is where you XenForo installation is

its in a subfolder

tunisia.com (main website)

/community folder is the location of the xenforo installation and files

can you do the same thing for the library folder it is in :

public_html/community/library

(it shouldn't matter where it is, as long as it is in the same place as your xenforo install)

Here it is

I am pretty sure that all of the files are in the right place its just the /folder being the issue.

If you want you can have the ftp details and have a peek

It looks correct for the forum we are looking at, I've noticed you have a lot of other add-ons in there, but none seem to be installed on the forum:
tunisia.com/community/
Have you managed to install an add-on here yet?

I've also noticed, you seem to be uploading to tunisi.com, not to tunisia.com (tunisi.com seems to be an expired domain name, could it be you are uploading to an old server?)

There is also something strange, in your library folder, you have a folder named model
Where did this come from?

Moldel, is a folder name used by the plugins

so, you will often see things like:

library/XenZine/Model
or
library/XenForo/Model

not
library/Model

yes loads before but none after upgrade to 1.2 / moving to comunity I have disactivated lots of the plugins as i wanted to go through them after the upgrade.

Thats just the name of the ftp in transmit I have corrected it now its not a setting

I do not know maybe left over from a previous install but it looks like something from xentools

tenants updated XenZine Articles with a new update entry:

Carousel Category Images and Category Watching

This version contains Carousel Category Images and Category Watching, amongst other things:

Fixes
  • ThreadToArticle- When converting threads to articles and using the Authors Avatar option, this did not include the avatar - Fixed
  • Ratings & Review Comments did not add to the recent activity & provide alerts - Fixed
  • Articles did not include the subcategory in the breadcrumb - Fixed

Enhancements, Carousel Category Images
  • Its now possible to represent each category as an image (instead of a list of words), this is aesthetically more pleasing and makes it easier to navigate the Article List
  • If no category image is defined, the carousel will use your pre-defined default article image for that category. (You now 2 image options in the ACP for each category: "category images" and "default article image for this category" )
Enhancements, Watching Categories

When an article is published (or updated) into a category or a sub-category that the user is watching, the user is provided with an alert about this activity
  • It is now possible to watch categories using forum alerts
  • It is now possible to watch categories with email alerts

Enhancements, Performance
  • Despite adding functionality, I've managed to improve the performance even further
Article Page: Base + 3 Total: 10 Queries
Article List: Base + 4 (+ 1 for each additional extra section... such as picks/top rated) Total: 11 Queries
Category List: Base + 0 (+ 1 for each additional extra section... such as picks/top rated) Total: 7 Queries
Editors Picks: Base + 0 (+ 1 for each additional extra section... such as picks/top rated) Total: 7 Queries
Submit area: Base + 3 Total: 10 Queries

As an example from core
This thread is 12 queries
Forum Home is 14 queries
Members Page is 18 queries

sorry to be a pain I want to embed google maps and some slideshows (object flickr) into articles.

Is there an easy ways around this so I can also allow other article authors to do the same?

It's weird how the article comments are in their own tab. Is there an option to simply have comments/discussion be underneath the actual article? I've never seen a CMS/article system that makes you click tabs just to discuss an article, usually it's right underneath it and you can jump right into the conversation after reading.

Looks like its modeled after the RM.
