Add-on XenPorta 2.0 Portal & Framework Crowd-Fund!

Kier is busy secretly developing CMS for XF 2.0
Really, it would be great.

But the communication were hopeless.

Everything is secret and if asked news, Paul said in response:

Have you seen an announcement ? and/or then either delete/close the thread. (Sorry for the off topic)

Possibly. But he also made a big thing about needing the crowdfunding to cover his living costs while coding the addon . . . it wasn't really to cover his living costs while he played a game (his gaming site requests donations for that already, I believe). I understand that he's not expected to be coding this thing 24/7 but he could, at the very least, show a little respect towards those people who have put money into it for him - posting videos of him playing video games when asked about updates was a little inconsiderate (as well as having absolutely nothing to do with the addon). If he doesn't want to be asked why he can spend hours playing/posting videos of him playing but could not find the time to meet his first soft deadline for this addon (which people raised $5K for) then he really shouldn't have brought it into this thread.

As Jaxel says himself on his page, he needs the money to pay the bills - the assumption there is that because people have covered his bills, they deserve to see that he's working on it as much as he's playing games.
Not sure if it applies to Jaxel, but many people make their living off streaming games and producing videos.

And he didn't meet his soft deadline? It was a very soft deadline from what I could see, and it isn't as if he's so far behind that it's impossible to meet his stable ship date.

People just seem to be over reacting and creating drama for the sake of creating drama, and this is exactly one of the reasons I find myself avoiding the XenForo forums as much as I possibly can now.

I'm not a hater - I have no real interest in the addon either way. I just found his comment about having been too busy interesting, when his youtube account shows that he had enough time to spend hours editing gaming videos ;)

Well there is always channel management through G+ allowing other contributing editors from 8WR to upload to the channel. Maybe one of these days my lazy people will get up and do that so our channel will actually be used... lol

Wasn't that his reasoning of a Crowd Fund? To have money to code up front instead of what he could be doing to make a living? Those were his words....

Nice that you can pay your bills for a year for a couple of grand but I doubt most people can...

I imagine the funding equates to a few weeks of solid work and I don't see anything so far to suggest that by Christmas that won't have happened.

Hopefully someone decides to clean this thread up and remove all this off-topic stuff.

If you feel it is off topic, feel free to report. However, look at the topic title. This thread is about the funding of it. My replies have been about the subject at hand.

Well, XenPorta has been one of the most popular and top downloaded addon. Plus the tremendous support to crowdfunding initiative clearly indicates that there's indeed need for the CMS; and I believe KAM know about this.

XenPorta 2.0 would be a logical step in introducing a Content Management System. Not all setups want to have forums as their front pages. A customizable, moduled, flexible, CMS that fully integrates with XenForo would be a great step.

I just hope KAM think the same way as I do. :)

I hope it always remains 3rd party. I'd think KAM already realize how bloated vB4 became adding the "suite" vs vB3 with something like vB Advanced as the portal.. I really doubt they want to make the same mistake IB did with vB4.

I agree with you to some extent; but VB4 wasn't done by Mike and Kier. AFAIK, Kier and Mike left after doing the initial iterations of vB4; with Kier posting a few screenshots of how the vB4 would look like. It had me excited for a while :) .

I don't see why you'd need it to be 3rd party. Why can't it be an 'add-on' like Resources Manager?

It would be an add-on since it would require great amount of debugging and testing, which would delay (heavily) any forum release.
I'm sure they know that a good CMS system would be a hit, but to make a CMS require lots of work hard work. This isn't done in one day and sometimes not even in weeks, but months of constant working. Since Kier said few years ago that they want to build a strong base (forum system) and only then diverse to different areas, I suspect that a CMS would come soon since the forum is pretty "strong" feature wise. I guess though, that a final CMS product won't be available in the next year, since again, it's not an easy task - especially not for only 2 coders that also develop the forum and maintain bug fixes.

^ I think the discussion is still on track. Those who funded the add-on are concerned about it.

Communication is key when you take in over $5,000 from a community. That communication should not come off as cocky / whatever man either when it comes to addressing any concerns.

Fully agreed and my money is at stake too; so I'm just as concerned as everyone else.

The announcements made so far on Pozible are useless and the status of the project is not known. We don't know whether coding has began and when will some of us get the first beta.

report it if you feel it breaches the rules.

Sorry I thought I did...

Do you really not think that discussing whether XF 2.0 will have a CMS is off-topic on this thread especially when there are multiple other threads that already discuss that?

I'm interested in why you think that's off topic.

This is a thread about a CMS/Portal and it seems only logical that there would be discussion of alternatives and the most important of those alternatives would be the possibility that perhaps there may be an official portal/CMS. Seems to make perfect sense to me.
