Add-on XenPorta 2.0 Portal & Framework Crowd-Fund!

If that early access involves feature requests, feedback to ideas, etc ( it might well not) then it's not crazy to think a forum might exist before a fully working build is ready, hence my question.

12 + another 4 people pledged to have access to the beta site at some point during the development.

Your point?

If your not one of those people then you won't have access to the beta site, not until after them anyhow. There is no date set for that I can guarantee you Jaxel doesn't know yet but your asking anyways. The only real difference here is this is crowd funded so people can try and demand answers. But not giving ETA's if he so chooses is for the same reason Xenforo's Developers don't give roadmaps or ETA's. Its unwise to do so.

Im used to CyanogenMod development timelines. The answer is ALWAYS when it is done, never a date, never a time frame. No matter who is asking or when, how often etc. Pisses everyone off, but its the smartest and safest answer.

I will be one of the early testers. I was asking Jaxel if he had any idea when a forum might be available, whether he'd even given it any thought or if it might be 6 months away.

I wasn't asking for ETAs on the software and I'm certainly not demanding anything. You seem to be really confused by that and your replies reflected your misunderstanding.

We don't currently even know if the early testers will be asked for suggestions/feedback/feature requests, etc so I was just wondering if there were any plans yet.

It has... but I'm taking it slow, to make sure everything is mapped out correctly... and to not burn myself out...

And to have time to play Dark Souls 2.

Who said you could play games? I dont remember giving you permission to do that...

How does that crowd funding site work? If nothing delivered, then money gets returned?

You guys wanna crowdfund me an extra tv? I'll take pics of me watching it in my briefs.

One thing I'd like to say is that I really hope we get rid of the featured.png or featured.jpg being the only way to add a picture to an article on the homepage. This makes it impossible to store any of those images in the same folder because the folder doesn't allow for images to be named the same.

It also makes it impossible to search for an image as they're all called by the same name too.

I'd much rather be able to name the featured pictures with a relevant name and upload it to the post/article then choose from a drop down image select menu when promoting that thread. I'm sure I'm not the only one that found that rather annoying.

But I'm sure you're already on that in the rewrite.

If I'm right, it's not how it works with the RecentFeatures block and it would be nice you change that in XP2.0 :)

I was waiting for someone to bring this up. Since its a block and not core all someone needs to do is write you a block the way you would like it to function. Not everyone can do it themselves but don't let the core limit you on something like this. I intend to release a couple blocks when I get around to it (this not being one of them) but for those with a basic understanding of xenforo development its a piece of cake.

@Lone Wolf I think some of us were confused as you said articles rather than slider/features. Which I haven't double checked but I started with 1.5.9 myself and thats how it was I thought. One name for the slide image.

It won't be as simple as that because what Lone Wolf proposed is far away from a simple block. With a block you can't interfere into the thread view and even with the RecentNews block which has a better way of running, it's impossible.

Jaxel told us that he will make the articles working totally different, I assume that blocks will work with them better than now so I think it's ok if we give ideas now in order to be able to use XenPorta 2.0 the best possible :)

Lone Wolf just seemed to have clarified he is talking about the RecentFeatures slider? I wasn't speaking of the Article system which is different. I am talking about the slider which checks a forum for threads with an attached image. If someone doesn't like the implementation they can write one.

I would consider articles to be a xenporta core reliant feature as its a bit more complicated than just displaying information already in existence. I say it like that as I have no use for it and have never looked at it.

Being able to choose an image inside the article, assign it a token, a metadata or whatever to have a difference, in order to make the slider use this image is in my opinion the best way to proceed for both the slider and the RecentNews block and I hope that's what we will have :)

$4K+ to work on an add-on ... I don't understand this.
What's not to understand. If you paid someone to make this for you your talking say 60 an hour for how many billable hours? Might get away with a flat fee of 500 bucks.

4K for 4 months is a 7 dollar an hour minimum wage job. Chump change. Just cause people like me work for cheaper means nothing. Its this guys income. He doesn't have money he doesn't eat. No income means no time to work on this he has to go do a job.

I have seen some people here charging 80£ per hour. I assume that Jaxel will take more than 35h to make XenPorta 2.0 so, it's worth the price. Also, more than 4k$ seems to be a lot but we are 70 to pledge. For me it's the same as if we simply bought this addon :)
