Sure, first make sure your forums folder on your second domain doesn't exist, delete it if it does.
in SSH run... ln -s /home/username-here/public_html /home/username-here/public_html/second-domain-folder/forums This will now link the two folders together showing the files in /home/username-here/public_html when you visit second-domain/forums
I tried
ln -s /home/osaka/public_html/forum /home/osaka/public_html/jp.osaka.com/forum
But when I typed http://jp.osaka.com/forum , it is still showing http://www.osaka.com/forum
ln -s /home/osaka/public_html/forum /home/osaka/public_html/jp.osaka.com/forum

However, I am wondering whether XenCentral has the function of having 2 sites under 2 different directories instead of under 2 different domains ? Perhaps it's not supported?

As long as it's a symlink, not a real second directory, yes it will work. I do this already using symlink so both my forums using it has SSL.

no, http://jp.osaka.com/forum actually goes to site 1 (English version) instead of site 2 (Japanese version)
It is supposed to go to the Japanese version (i.e. site 1)
However, if you type http://jp.osaka.com/forum/index.php , it would go to site 2 (correct site)
But even with this method, the log-in are not synced.

The only potential issue I see with this idea is the inability to abstract/separate one site/data if it's to be acquired/moved to a new owner... I run a fairly large network of forums and at one point - one became so large and impossible to maintain that I let it go.
Is there any possibility of exporting a site/data in the event it becomes impossible to manage?

You are right, the product does not allow anything like that. As this scenario is not something our customers need frequently, we do not see any reason to develop such big addition into the product, but we can assist you with it for sure when you need something like that as a custom project. Just contact us at http://desk.xencentral.com and we will help you building an "exporter" for a domain.
Thank you for the suggestion, we will include this in the next release. It will have zone filter to enable/disable zones per domain.

I agree about the exporter. This addon is incredible and I would now recommend it to anyone wanting this kind of solution. There are still a couple of issues with it but hopefully they will get ironed out as they get reported and fixed.
The one BIG issue with it is that you need to be sure, absolutely sure, that you want your site(s) to use it as there is no going back, or at least major work and effort should you ever want to separate your sites back to stand alone installs. This places a burden on the developers to ensure that they maintain their addon for a long period of time as we, the customers of it, will depend on it for as long as we have our sites. Also, a very quick update will be a must when ever XF releases any update to their software.
With that aside, and remembering the XF licensing requirements, this is one very powerful addon that is very worthy of consideration should you have the need for it.

Addon is truly becoming amazing! The speed you been fixing bugs and adding support for other addons is top notch. Now would just like to see besides my suggestion for your ad manager already mentioned would be.. to be able to set different notices from http://xenforo.com/community/resources/notifications.870/ based on domain. Albums and Photos from http://xenforo.com/community/resources/sonnb-xengallery-xenforo-gallery.2076/ again based on domain. Events for betting based on domain with http://xenforo.com/community/resources/sportsbook.751/ and twitch.tv streams from http://xenforo.com/community/resources/8wayrun-com-xenrio-streams-pro.1652/ based on domain.
