Why are posts restricted?

Just copied in a review to see how things would look from a large post perspective and got the following error message

"Please enter a message with no more than 10000 characters."

Is there a reason posts are restricted? Would imagine 10k would be enough for 99.9% of posts, simply wondering about the limit.

10000 chars should not be a mysql limit; it depends on what datatype they used in the database.
Than i think you will be able to increase it =)

It's only a setting feature in the ACP ;)

It's not that, it's actually an admin setting.

I hope it will be able to set ... in my old forum we use 50.000 characters

Performance considerations mostly. Additionally, if you could put 1MB of text in a post, you could end up with a page that was # of posts * 1MB in size (for the HTML alone). :)

Would it be possible to do though? Lately I'm having problem in vB because it takes too much time to process 500k chars (lots of html) and the database goes away :(

Cool, that makes sense :) Two thumbs up for the setting.

then you strongly recommend this limit? i'm wondering about this, it's something related with the amazing speed of this forum?

Yes, I would recommend keeping a limit, though the difference between 10,000 and 20,000 isn't a big deal.

It's a common feature of other forum software.

Think about it .. 1mbyte is a lot of text.

Indeed, but under certain circumstances, it can be very useful and in my case essential

For reference, 1MB of text is about 1/3 of the length of War & Peace. You probably don't need that much. :)

I'm hoping that the pages option of XF can replace my index threads (which can go up to 1mb). Many of the threads linked by the index have over 65k chars, some up to 600k worth of chars.

    Good heavens...

Yes, Pages would be the ideal thing to have there.

Will pages be able to be created/modified by users based on usergroup?

Also, are they created on the front end, or in the Admin CP?

Admin CP. That should basically answer both questions.

Darn! I was planning on sharing my soon to be best selling novel right here on the Xenforo community! Guess I'll have to settle with some of my short stories instead :D.
Always a great feature to have, IMO.

That limits the use quite a bit, if non-admins cannot edit/create pages.

    Perhaps someday...
