What's New Digest 5.4.1

No permission to download
Ah we were looking for a digest of a specific node..

Thank you

I mean you could exclude every node except the one you want - but if you've got a lot of nodes, then that would be difficult to maintain and I'm not sure if the textbox would allow enough characters for a very long list.

v5.4.0 - bugfixes and code-cleanup

5.4.0 (2026-10-15)

  • minimum PHP is now 7.4, raised from 7.2. A forum on PHP 7.2 or 7.3 cannot install or upgrade to this version and will be told so; 5.3.2 remains available for those forums
  • new whats-new-digest:validate command, which checks that a forum can send the digests it is configured to send: the preference column and its values, the three cron entries, the thread limit and default frequency, excluded forums that no longer...

With the new cmd.php whats-new-digest:validate what does this "non matching" item refer to?

Code:
Preference UI
  [ ok ] modifications 3 of 4 applied
  [ ] not matching whatsnewdigest_user_edit_xf23

v5.4.1 - improve the output of validate command

5.4.1 (2026-10-16)

  • the two template modifications that add the digest preference to the admin user page are now one. XenForo changed how template macros are written in 2.3, so there was one modification per syntax and exactly one of them always matched nothing — correct, but whats-new-digest:validate reported it as an unmatched modification, which reasonably reads as a fault. A single pattern now handles both, so validate reports...

Ahh - thanks for pointing that one out, that one was Claude being a bit obtuse about reporting unmatched template modifications.

The template syntax changed in XF 2.3 and so old template modifications don't match the new syntax - we had two separate modifications which matches the different versions and so Claude's check of whether all template modifications had matched, correctly showed that some didn't match. You got the _xf23 modification not matched because presumably you are on XF 2.2 - while on my server I get the 2.2 version not matched. Both are correct - but the validate output that Claude chose to show for this validation was unhelpful.

In 5.4.1 I've changed it to use a single regex based template modification which matches either format - and so now the validate command outputs a more helpful "3 of 3 applied" response for the template modifications.

5.4.0 was not broken - it was just the validation output that was unhelpful, upgrading is optional.

The reason this is useful is in case a 3rd party addon changes the template before this addon gets to it - and changes it in a way that our modification no longer matches, and so you don't get the UI updates necessary to operate this addon correctly.
