XF 1.1 What happens if you lose your cache mod?

I recently upgraded a site to a VPS with APC and Memcache.

For some unknown reason, the host lost the memcache install on my box.

However, I could not revert the site back to some alternative cache while they screwed around to fix the install...

    What causes me to ask...

Should I lose my memcache module or something, how do I override the setting to use APC or File for the backend? Is it possible?

You would specify a different backend in the config file:

    http://xenforo.com/help/cache/

Or just remove all cache settings from the config file to not use a cache at all.

    Right...

And I did that - reverting first to backend = Apc and then to backend = File...
    Site still looked for memcache.

I did not get the site back online until the memcache module was reinstalled.
