We're now on Bluesky 🦋

Has any social media platform had any success based on a dislike for someone? A platform really needs to remain impartial at launch to be a success , in my humble opinion. I don't have a horse in this race so I look at as a whole. If X is now "right" wing and Bluesky is against X, it would then pretty much he considered more left leaning by default as it is taking in the refuges of X.

I'm unsure how it'll get policed. I just post gaming stuff. Facebook tried threads, that failed and that was fairly impartial. Any input is welcomed.

checked and looks like not. xenforo seems to be available as an id that can be used.
Thanks for checking; thinking out loud, it may be worth it to outfits to grab both their verified domain and their preferred non-domain handle pro-actively. Even if other instances running the AT Protocol take off there will likely be a few main ones like the existing bsky.app that would be worth companies trying to prevent imitators at.

Well twitter is a rabid cesspit and threads is owned by Facebook so it's the only one I'll use.
Dorsey wasn't much better and now with Blockchain Capital taking the lead at Bluesky I give it a few years before they change their minds and let the 'crypto bros' invade. There's still Mastodon. 👀

If, like many people, you're departing Twitter (yes, Twitter) and you're finding your new home at Bluesky, you can now find us there too:

Awesome!
See if you can get an account on threads.net too.

Great to see more folks on Bluesky, it sure is a happier place :)

It would be wonderful if there was a way to allow Bluesky users to comment on Xenforo posts, is something like that possible ?

I got used to it. Also, I noticed (maybe it just affects me) it is important what app you use to access Mastodon. Some are perfect, some a more basic or "ugly" :)

Mastodon's problem is going to be the same as Lemmy's. I tried to switch after the Reddit APIcalypse, but needing to choose a homeserver and finding out they don't see content from wherever <reddit community> migrated to because of your homeserver's politics or whatever, kills it for most users.

It's great for people who care about users and communities being able to self-moderate, but Joe Average couldn't care less if it happened on Venus in an alternate universe. They just want to sign up somewhere and be able to post and see others' posts.

You're right about that.

See also Reddit vs all of our individual forums, just on a potentially bigger canvas.

Those issues will happen again with Bluesky if there start being additional popular AT Protocol instances besides "Bluesky". It'll be interesting to see how they handle it knowing the pain points Mastodon is experiencing. My inner cynic though predicts Bluesky itself following the models of Threads and Twitter within a few years as it pursues monetizing users leaving to a fragmented ecosystem.

On a different note, for my fellow old-timers, does the new Bluesky butterfly logo remind you of a different logo of a once very dominant brand? 😁

Indeed. I'm forced to use a few Instagram accounts for various things I'm involved in; one is required for our road rally check-ins, in fact. It boils my bunions but I still use it.

I have a neutered FB account with no ties to anything else, accessed in an incognito/InPrivate browser, and it's obviously working since its recommendations are based on members I've looked at profiles of who are not related in any way, and nothing familiar ever comes up. I use it only for creating API keys (or whatever they are) for XenForo logins...and yeah, sadly, so I can use Marketplace, since Craigslist is pretty much 💩 in our area.

I hate FB as much as others but dang it...Marketplace has become the predominant classifieds tool, so there's no sense in using others (like Craigslist, OfferUp, etc., for numerous reasons) because sellers won't get as good of exposure, and buyers would have way fewer options, if relying on those other platforms. As we have a lot of downsizing to do, I have a feeling it's going to get a workout in the next year as we purge things from our life. And I'll hate every minute of it. But...whatcha gonna do? 🤷‍♂️

The best social platform I've concluded is MySpace. That was super nice. Bring back Tom.
Why stop there? Let's bring back Microsoft Bob...or Clippy. 🤣
