I didn't make it about me and power. I made it about fishkeeping.

Actually you did. You thought of something you kept your mind to it and now you have a forum about it. That's all about you, if you think about it. Should have went with something that everyone can enjoy. Not everyone is from "Utah".

Everyone is welcome on my site, I just decided I wanted it to be a local resource. There is a large and active utah specific saltwater fishkeeping forum, but the only freshwater discussion is a facebook group that isn't that active. I saw a place for a forum, so I created one. For example there is a forum called carolinafishtalk.com, but a lot of the members there aren't from that location. Everyone is jumping on me for not taking advice. The advice I got on the admin zone was to make 30 500 word posts a day. I can make several quality posts a day on my site, but 30 is just freaking ridiculous. I want my forum to be fun for me and making 30 500 word posts a day isn't fun at all.

You desperate to gain members on your forum, but yet you barely post actual articles for your forum with details or anything like that. Personally I would do articles...like actual articles and not like one sentence or anything like that.

I have several articles. I can post some more, but not 30 a day. I lost 2 active members yesterday and I just hope my site dosen't fail because of that,

Never said 30 a day...5 would be a good amount to start with. But don't put words in my mouth that I didn't say. :) Trying to help.

Again, I never said 30 a day...do not put words in my mouth. Listen closely on this.

Carp all this stress isnt good for you, UFK has already failed, its too small a niche, not enough maturity on your part, some bizzare power mad admin actions on your part, a very bad almost comical reputation to the site.

I suggest closing it till you are older and then trying something at that time, all you are doing now is making the whole thing worse for yourself and your site, giving yourself a bad name in the admin community included.

You cannot fail, if you haven't even tried.

People talked about articles and you said you don't need them on your side, because other sides already have much better articles than you could possibly come up with. An article can be more than just a huge wall of text about the anatomy of a fish. You might consider making a "news" section on your forum, making it display in a portal (wordpress or like here: http://www.titanfall-community.com/ with "feature threads mod"). You can write articles about it which are uniqe to your side, e.g.:

1) http://www.utahfishkeepers.us/threads/the-aquarium.128/. Write something like: title "fishstore - the aquarium - closes"... was opened in 1874 by Scrooge McDuck, had a size 100x50 meters. Recently the owner died and nobody was there to take on his legacy or filed bankrupcy, whatever might have been the case with that store (would be your job to figure out). Just make sure you make it interesting to read!

2) New store opened in city ABC which provides the perfect equipment (pictures from the store (inside and outside)/ a little background about size/ who owns it/how to get there)

3) Review of a random fish store (pictures/historical background/stock etc.)

4) A day in the life of a fishaholic (write something about your hobby which others might find interesting - later on you can also highlight through the portal the interesting storys/fish tanks whatever of your fellow users)

5) Did I already mentioned that store ABC in city D sells this week this and that at reduced price/ offers something that is very uniqe and you won't find in any other store?

6) Meeting of fishaholics this weekend in town Y (we are already 5, but everyone is welcome - link to a thread about the organisation/place...)

7) Kinda like 4): Fishtank of the month

8) You might have more of an idea what could be here, it's your hobby after all

!Keep the announcements seperated from that - they are only about your internal stuff. The readers who you want to attract with that "news" section don't care whether you changed servers or not!

That would give your site a) content, b) topics to discuss about c) bundles the most interesting stuff on one side (which is extremly important at the beginning when there isn't much interesting stuff at all). Of course you don't have to expect activity there right away, because nobody reads your site yet, but it gives your site content which users might find interesting and brings them back, reading it at first and later might help them with the decision to sign up and write their thoughts under an article and create activity in the long run.

You don't have to post those topics daily. Every 3 days one of those posts and your users already come back to your site weekly, watching what is new. At one point they are the ones who create the discussions inside the forum which make them come back daily.

I can't close it. Does it really have that bad of a reputation? What did I do wrong? It hasn't failed. 2 members leaving failed it?

I have a section for local fishkeeping discussion. You mean adding something like XenPorta 2 to UFK?
all you are doing now is making the whole thing worse for yourself and your site, giving yourself a bad name in the admin community included.
I need to make the site successful. I don't think I have a bad name in the admin community.

If i were fishboy, i would do the following:
1) STOP posting on other forums asking others 'will my forum fail?'.
2) START utilising the showcase addon that was donated to him. Not a single showcase item has even been created. Does he expect everyone else to create the content for him? Why not create SC items based on each of the freshwater species?
3) STOP copying and pasting articles from other sites - there is nothing unique about that. START creating UNIQUE content, in your own words. If someone goes to a site which has tonnes of copied and pasted articles, why would they bother joining your site?
4) STOP worrying about XF2, upgrades, addons, controller projects etc, and START involving yourself in discussions with people who join. If noone is joining, then you need to keep pushing out more UNIQUE content. Write the information in basic terms that even a 13yo kid will be able to understand.
5) STOP with the defensive attitude, and admit that they have not done enough to make their site viable for visitors. Treat other members of the site as members, not as an overlord or as the forum owner. You are there to FACILITATE/CREATE discussion, not to play god. STOP using the BAN feature because its apparent you have no idea on how to use it. You have more banned members than active members - that should give you an idea of how you have totally lost the plot.
6) You site has fail written all over it. You 'showoff' the fact that you have x amount of posts when most are low quality stuff like 'lol', 'what do you mean?' etc. Everything on the site is low quality and the only thing written of quality was by people you have banned. Those guys were more qualified to run your forum than you are.

Personally the best option would be for you to kill the site because you are not mature enough to be a forum admin. Being a forum owner is not all fun and games as you probably think it will be. Its a LOT of hard work. You need to be SELFLESS. You wont be given credit for making things easier and people will be quick to point out when you have stuffed up. However when the forum is flourishing its very satisfying to have created the community. You are a LONG way off that. Instead, join up a fish forum and ask to help out, create content, learn how mature people run forums. Learn how mature people handle moderation. Learn how to interact with users (for example putting up a pic of faeces as an avatar for another member is not a good idea...). Whilst you seem to be passionate about fishkeeping, you seem to want to create a forum which is your 'playground'.

If you spent the same energy you have posting on other forums, as you could have on your own forum, we would not be having this conversation.

I don't have a camera, so I can't take pictures for showcase, but I am going to get one soon and when I have one I will use it. The only banned users are Jim Vineyard duplicate accounts. I do not allow people on my site who have threatened to kill me. Me shutting down my site would be the worst way to fail. I don't want to give up just yet. I know how to interact with users. Who did I give the poop avatar to? It is super easy for me to post on other forums because there are members to converse with. It isn't hard to figure out what to post about on other sites. I have put the same energy in to my site when people were posting on it, but 2 of the active posters left.

so I can't take pictures for showcase
You dont need pictures for showcase. You could atleast create the items and then add pics later? No? Oh its too much hard work isnt it?

Me shutting down my site would be the worst way to fail
Its not a fail but a learning process. You are simply not ready to run a forum based on everything most people have learned about you. Sorry to say this, but you are too young/dont have the maturity level needed. You are better off being just a member...but you have been banned a few times by different forums already havent you?
I don't want to give up just yet.
You should.

I know how to interact with users.
Doubtful or active members would not be leaving.

No point even trying to steer you in the right direction. Over and out.
