Could this be used for Trip Reports, where the OP can mark Postings as Days of a Trip and other Users can discuss in that Thread as well?

Yes, I believe there is already a site doing something like that. The entire purpose is to allow easily navigable content in a thread for readers that is created by the thread starter (or anyone who can create threadmarks)

Yes, I've deployed the latest version to https://xf2.nixfifty.com/ which is running XF2.1 (so the old Content Rating bits are missing)

My free Word Count Search add-on actually does that. It also tracks word-count per threadmark and pushes that into the thread's overall status
