This is why the only administrative tool for a site I run is SSH with keys...

That is all I've ever known. I was hosting/creating sites back in 1997 and all we had was telnet and FTP--I don't think any panels existed at the time, and we enabled SSH/SFTP and keys as they became available. So I'm comfortable working this way.
