Snogs Site was down, it is now back up ... move along, nothing to see here

Why would you need that? No one really needs that.
Well, for the crontab, there is this neat feature in XF for sites that aren't very active to keep jobs up to date. :p

Also, I regularly make changes to my addon files directly on my production server, if a bug/error is reported, until I get a chance to get to my test server, update the addon there, then build it, upload it, and upgrade the proper way. Admittedly, I'm probably one of very few who do that.

Hear me out. Imagine if you’d had your production site on XF Cloud and your test/dev site on CyberPanel
Only reason we have a test site on cloud is to test any addon that's reported not playing well with the cloud. To try to replicate the issue. Additionally, we try out new stuff to make sure it plays well with cloud.

That's somewhat debatable ;)

Periodically processing large amounts (in the order of 10+ GB) of data via XF jobs is a PITA - you'd really want to do this via CLI triggerd by cron / systemd timer.
Yeah you’d just ask us to do it. It’s not called a managed service for nothing.

Just because it is managed doesn't mean people do not want access to things.

Being able to edit config.php, being able to access images, doing quick fixes on files for add-ons (VaultWiki), adding additional files for outside services, or other edge cases.

Other than required packages for PHP I need, I would not be able to use XF Cloud because I either need to be able to edit config.php, or I need to edit and add files to an add-on.

Some people need to let go. Some people won’t. That’s fine too.

Considering you have your forum it would be better if the xf staff managed it.
Takes the pressure off your shoulders so you can concentrate on working on your forum.
But i do get your point too.
If it was me i'd be happy that the xf staff here have offered to help

I actually can't tell if you're memeing or not 😛

When a new tag is generated in my Github repos, a SSH connection is made to my server which puts the product's files in a folder (f.ex. /ecommerce/v4.0.0). Downloads are generated by checking if the license being downloaded has an attached Branding Free license and strips the copyright footer dynamically if so.

Suppose there's a security vulnerability or some other showstopping bug. In that case, I will edit existing versions in addition to releasing a new one so as not to force people to renew their licenses or apply manual patches to their installations - they can just download a fresh zip from their existing entitled download.

I don't think this kind of capability is a matter of letting go 😛 And I don't think sending you a ticket every time I want to release a new product or hotfix an existing version is feasible.

Of course, XF Cloud is going to be perfectly fine for people who just want to run their forums and are fine with managing their addons via the archive installer, but you did come into a thread regarding a fellow developer/development team - I don't think it's beyond the realm of possibility that developers need a bit more access compared to your average user :D

Just out of curiosity, are the cloud prices per site? I assume so, but I just wanted to clarify. If that's the case, switching to XF cloud would cost me $280/month. I currently spend $102.50/month for my managed VPS.

This XF Cloud thing sounds like a winner.
Well, until you look at the price and understand what you're limited to...they cap page views and our analytics show we get ~2M views a month on our relatively modest forum, so if we wanted to switch we'd be paying for their $250/month plan, which is absolutely insane pricing. We pay less than 10% of that for our current VPS (which manages a bunch of other stuff on top of our forum software) on a host that's not even particularly value-oriented...I could probably cut our infra costs in half if I took a chance on a smaller host.

It's quite simple really. If you want to do nothing yourself and don't have the time (and knowledge!) you go XF cloud.

In other cases, go with a VPS or dedicated server. That is indeed WAY cheaper but you are solely responsible...

I wouldn't be getting the $250 plan.
I'd be getting the starter and i would be paying annually.

There are other solutions between XF Cloud and a VPS server. Shared server in particular, up to a certain level of affluence they largely do the job.

Yeah, I am on shared hosting and for the size of the site, it works well. I love the idea of XF Cloud but even the cheapest package something like doubles my annual spend relative to my current budget for shared hosting provider + XF maintenance.
