Smilies Under type box.

That's great Shelley!

Would be great to cycle through the categories with those arrows left and right. For example...."Regular Smilies", "Holiday Smilies", "Sign Smilies", etc.

Posting the navigation mockup to explain it better within the screenshot. And keeping it for reference amongst other mockups that I'll put forward later.

Regarding the frontend smiley catergory. I thought that this was being implemented like a slideshow so to speak with the multi-page navigation in mind.?

I did a quick mockup with two navigation icons on either side and pending on what category you want the user only needs to click the icon and the box slides along to the next catergory of smilies much like a slideshow except the box makes that transition to the next catergory . I provided a mockup (below)
I didn't know about this, but yeah, that would be great!

Seeing this kind of interaction between multiple coders and designers working with XenForo puts a very big smile on my face :)
One can only imagine the smile the success of this forum and its engine has put on your face! :D

Actually.. As the journey goes on. I think you'll be amazed by the creativity of people, who will add mods to this forum. And really, the types of mods that will be available for XF will be amazing :D

Looks alot like how vB displays them. I really like the smilies in the slide out tray beneath the text editor.

I'm hoping that we can end up with the default smilies only, in the drop down menu, and all the extras in the slide out tray.
That would be awesome.
Having them categorized would really make me very happy.
yes.gif

Or We can have something like this too which i mentioned earlier .

example.webp

Box can have 8-12 default smilies shown and rest can go to show more pop up page or something.

Will look much better and organized too :)

I think the arrangement "underneath text box" is the one that has been decided upon. I don't like at all that you have to open one popup then another to "see all" smilies. It just seems too much and a little overkill to get to view "all smilies" which most of us will have to do who use lots.

It also helps that you and Mike have programmed such a fun system to code for (fast too! It took me about a day to write the bulk of BB Code Manager, that amazes the hell out of me!), we don't mind working on these projects. Plus, you guys have given me a way to help myself in my programming classes (which reminds me... I still have to fix that program)!

Along with pop-ups, I wonder what other methods we can think of to bring our users back to that 1998 netscape navigator feeling... hmm maybe some smilies in a blinking marquee.

The main point is that we should be innovating the entire smiley/user interaction method as well as the admin interface.

I'll say it in public. I love your way of thinking. ROFLMAO @ "Smilies in blinking marquee" *chuckles*

Jokery aside. I feel Inph and what he's saying is true. Looking how features can be implemented, structure organised, layout deployed in a creative, simplistic and innovative way is the way to go on this one. For me, doing this area out keeping in mind that the simplistic approach will bring fruitful rewards with this project.

I feel for once the advance smiley manger ca get some love here (backend/frontend) so we shouldn't waste that opportunity.

inph -- would you like to work together, you get the front end and I'll do the back end advanced manager (cause you dominated the front. :D)?

I love the categories idea and of course the drop down under the editor would be perfect.. Seen lots of examples on this thread but Shelley's mock ups are the best implementation, But as far as design coding goes... Sorry cant help ya. ;)
