but on replies the option does not appear
I do have it checked in the admin panel
unless there is something else i need to do ?
thank in advance on assistance on this,

The smilies option should be under the last three bars.

thanks Paul i'll try that
It does seem like that would be the first thing to check, however it doesn't explain them appearing in post #1 bit not replies. Technically I don't think it's possible for that to be the case unless some addon is causing it.

If you have not previously customised the BB code button manager (Editor Toolbar) by default the smilies show depending on browser width. Sometimes it is right there in the row of icons, sometimes under the three vertical dots (aka kebab menu)

  • Wide: between insert image and GIF

  • Medium: under the second kebab menu

  • Small: between the insert image and the 3rd kebab menu

  • Extra small: under the second kebab menu

It easy to reveal the whole behaviour by adjust your browser width. Ideally to see the smallest with a responsive mode like you get with development mode of browsers.

The editor is wider when composing a new thread.

Because the sidebar is not there. It's based on the available space so not just browser width. And this explains the difference between OP and replies because sidebar is there on replies but not OP.
