XF 2.2 Show thread title but not it's content in What's New

I want to encourage a particular user-group to subscribe. The permissions on a particular node are set up as below.



This works fine, if they go to the forum, they can see the threads, but if they click through to see the content they are denied.

However, when I set it up like this, that particular forum's threads don't show up in What's New for them, so they don't see the thread at all.

How can I fix it so they see the thread title in Whats New, but are denied the content when they click.? Thanks

A while back reported that as a bug as I didn't believe it should be expected behaviour:

Thread 'View threads but not view content: disallows viewing thread in the New posts list.'

If a permission allows viewing of threads, but not viewing of content, there users sees the threads as expected in the forum view thread list.

However they are unable to see the new posts list.

You would expect it to be the same as forum view, ie they would be able to see the list but not the content.
