XF 2.2 New posts redirected problem???

I have a quick question. Two of our users suddenly have problems with links in new posts. When they click on a thread there, they are not redirected to the first unread post but to the beginning of the thread. Even though they have read everything except the last post.
How exactly does XF handle this, with coockies or in the DB?

I'd like to know the answer to this also, please, as I have some members reporting the same when they haven't visited the threads for a while.

I think this has to do with the lifetime of the cookies. This is 30 days if I have this correctly in mind. Maybe @Paul can say something about this?

This might be related to Read marking data lifetime setting. Xenforo shows a Jump to New button at the top right in these threads as per my understanding which does seem to work as intended. Here is a response from a dev about this setting and why it exists.

Will in this case still be possible to "go to first unread"? As this happened to me, even if I was positioned at first page of very old thread (in sense, started long time ago, but had new posts recently), I could go to first unread posts.

The "jump to new" link shown within the thread will explicitly take you to the first post that is labeled as "new".

Read marking data lifetime is set to 30 days and the threads have had replies more recently than that. In some cases, earlier in the same day.

It's not exactly about the date of the last reply, but the date the thread was...
