XF 2.2 New posts widgets

I have just changed my default page from Forums to New posts in the basic options section. I would like to add some widgets to customize the page, but I am unable to find a display position that matches to do so nor can I find which template to custom edit it to add a widget key.

Also show only: unread is enabled by default. I would like to disable that as default to load all new posts

The template is forum_new_posts. It does offer a sidebar widget position (Forum new posts: Sidebar), but I think others would require a template edit.

This would require an add-on. The default filters are not editable, though users may customize them and save different defaults.

Another option would be to build a home page out of widgets that can include several widgets: new posts, new threads, trending, featured all kinds of stuff. I have done this as have many other people. I think it can make your forum seem more “website-like” rather than “just a forum”
