I've got the new posts widget working, pulling the three most recent listings in our forum's marketplace. We require all listings to have photos, and for the most part, they're pretty remarkable. A lot of what's sold is high-end, handmade custom musical instruments for thousands of dollars, so a widget with three listings and thumbnails will draw a lot of eyeballs I think.
That is, I'd like to style the widget so that in addition to pulling in the thread title, to also pull in a thumbnail of the first attachment. I suspect that rather than edit the New Posts widget for this, it might be faster to build a custom HTML widget...but we get a couple of new listings most days, so being able to pull directly from the forum rather than adding these myself is going to be the key to its success.
So pretty simple in principle: three most thread titles and their first attachements as a thumbnail in a sidebar widget. How should I go about this?
