I just get a little upset when people take developers for granted and act like they're owed something. It's even worse when it's on a free resource such as this.
I understand the link back thing, when I say free I'm always referring to money. This applies to all add-ons, especially $0 ones, if you aren't happy with the add-on and you don't want to link back to their site, just uninstall it. People releasing resources for free have very little incentive to update them. Most of them use the add-on on their own sites and post updates when they have a need to update for their own personal use.
As for letting people know when their updates will be posted, sometimes people don't know. Also, depending on the attitude of the person, they may just not want to bother posting until it's ready.
All I'm saying is that free resources should be treated (in general) as "as-is" products. You take it in it's current form, you may hope for an update, but you shouldn't assume it's coming.
