Just to provide an alternative viewpoint...

When I think of pudding, I think of something with a consistency a bit thicker than yoghurt or compote that one eats with a spoon. If someone hands me something called pudding, I expect if I try to pick it up, my hands will be covered in mush.
I do like bread pudding, when it is done well. Which is to say, not stale/dry bread and good ingredients as well as a nice sauce over top. Most bread pudding is too much bread, or too heavy, or gummy, or some other problem. A good bread pudding should be rich, but not heavy.
I also love English Trifle, and used to make it for Christmas, unfortunately I don't know enough people here who would like it and it's quite a bit of work for 1 person to eat.
Also, I left my Trifle bowl in the U.S. so I'd have to improvise.

You've just described a doughnut.leftie said:Yorkshire pudding, made from flour, egg, salt and milk and is like a bread where it bakes in hot oil and rises and is full of air.
