XF 2.1 not letting me upgrade my forum

hey there ive been trying to use the oneclick installer to update xenforo however i keep getting this error "The following issue was found when determining if a one-click upgrade is possible: The files are owned by a different user than the upgrade is running as" ive tried setting the webserver files owner to nobody but i still get the error. im not sure what im missing here if somebody could give me advice that would be greatly appreciated

Normally all files need to be owned by the Apache or Nginx (normally www-data, depends on your distro) user.

my 2 options are root and nobody, when setting all files to either the upgrade does not work, which files should i specifically set to nobody?

You should ask your host.

Perhaps someone accidentally installed it previously (or worked on it) as ROOT? Can use CHOWN shell command to assign it to a regular account first. I had the same issue when I obtained one of my forums, where it was 50/50 root and regular level users that it should have been - and that was the fix.

We don’t use anything but root, we solved the problem on our own (ovh refuses to help with anything xenforo related, even their permission system lol) - thanks for your help.
