New editor copy/ paste

When I copy and paste text in the new editor it forces a new line.

This is very inconvenient as intuitively I am pasting text where I want it!
Mostly I am trying to paste on the same line where my pointer is. This now seems impossible to do.

Is this as intended?
 
Win7 FF (Pale Moon20.01)
It seems to be OK if I paste from a word doc/ outside.
It's if I move text around within the edit box.

Steps to reproduce:
  1. Copy some existing text in the editor window
  2. Paste it into an existing sentence
Where you would normally expect the pre- and post- parts of the target text to join the pasted text and form a single line, they don't - a newline is inserted before and after the pasted text.
