Hi Guys!

So a question we have been deliberating, when wanting to check whats new on the forum, would you rather see the new posts feed: https://xenforo.com/community/find-new/posts

or, the recent activity feed: https://xenforo.com/community/recent-activity/

We can see pluses and minuses to both options, however would love your feedback on which you would prefer and why.

Thankyou.
What our users use all the time is recent posts. I have the CTA recent post plugin installed. They prefer it to new posts as they can keep an eye on most recent posts in a time organised maner. They dont like recent activity as it pulls in more than just posts and threads.

Our members look at Recent Activity more than What's New, and for me I always stay on Recent Activity page to keep an eye on members activity and what's going on because it also includes "Members online now". It's really useful and it would be amazing if there's an option to auto update the page when there's something new.

I think it pretty much has to be customisable (for the site owner, not necessarily the user) as which is used or makes more sense will be more site dependent.

On a side note it's interesting to see how much the one button seems to dominate the other on each forum. It's never really both used similarly they're massively used more in one direction.

I prefer to recent activity. But if we have the option to switch between them it will be more awesome. :)

On my forum analytics says it's 97% new posts and only 3% recent activity.

Personally I can't understand why people would prefer recent-activity over find-new. It's surprising me, that other forums can have almost only recent activity hits. Probably it can be a issue of robots.txt? I have following in my robots.txt:

Disallow: /recent-activity/
Disallow: /find-new/
Disallow: /find-new/posts
When other admins doesn't block crawlers in robots.txt for example recent-activity, then it's probably more clear why they have a lot more hits :D

I think some people just prefer a Facebook like feed to see everything going on... I just prefer to see the posts not the likes or status updates.

I only use New posts or recent posts I never use recent-activity

My members also seems to prefer new post above recent-activity

Why youtube videos are viewed on the YouTube app?
It will be possible to view it without app changing?

I have a large forum (10.8m posts) with a heavily customized theme. I have "New Posts" and "Recent Activity" links placed right next to one another in the top left corner of the forum home page only, and it's not even close. There's around 300 visits to "Recent Activity" and over 12,700 visits to "New Posts".

Although I would, of course, like both, if I had to choose one I strongly support New Posts. For very active boards like mine, Recent Activity can look a bit like a firehose, with the first page filling up with activity from just the last minute or two. It's interesting, but not very useful. If Recent Activity was the only option, it would be very frustrating and useless for any marginally active forum.
