Live Update 4.0.1

No permission to download
@Rudy, it might be worth verifying the favicon appears first by doing View Source in your browser. Just in case there's anything else appearing before it.

Yep, that was one of the first things I checked--the favicon.ico tag is directly above the apple-touch-icon tag. And clicking on the pathname in view source takes me right to the icon file.

Still...shouldn't the code be resizing either file properly? It seems like we're having to do workarounds for what is a faulty Tinycon script.

I think we have a better future with favico.js as the development seems to be on going and looking at the code it is cleaner & more simple. Tinycon seems to be a mess and there hasn't been any development in a year.

Tinycon seems to be in triage mode (and I'm sure @Chris Deeming has been getting the same email updates that I have), with some issues regarding the new hi-res "retina" version of the favicon.

Chris Deeming updated Live Updates with a new update entry:

XenForo 1.2 compatibility improvements etc.

  • Now includes Tinycon 0.6.1
  • New Option group and option to explicitly define the location of your favicon.ico file (recommended if the wrong icon is being picked up)
  • Uses template modifications instead of template hooks (now only XenForo 1.2 compatible)
  • Change of add-on ID to LiveUpdate (from AjaxPolling)
It is recommended to uninstall the existing version of the add-on prior to installing this version, but that should be handled for you automatically if you forget or...

Soooo do we really need to uninstall the old version first?
In theory it should be fine. But if the automatic uninstall fails it might not be immediately obvious. Though it should be fine. I have tested it a few times and it appears to work. Just being a bit cautious.

haha that makes me really nervous. How do you uninstall the old one?

Seems to be working fine:

upload_2013-10-18_23-44-14.webp

I installed this today. It seems to be working OK except that the number of alerts next to the favicon in the browser tab displays as a regular number in parenthesis instead of a nifty red alert.

Ah wait... this is the fall back Tinycon has. If it can't amend the favicon, it falls back to displaying the number as text instead. So, what browser are you using?

I'm currently on a Mac. I presume that IE10 doesn't support the visual modification of the icon. I will look into that. However, other things can affect it. Such as Internet Explorer compatibility mode etc.

If you press F12, what document mode is IE10 running in?

EDIT: Yeah, it isn't working in IE or Safari but that is entirely as designed.

Installed and working very nicely.
I changed the background colour of the alert number in the favicon by editing the update.js file :

temp1.webp

temp2.webp

What happens if the number is very high? Is there a limit to avoid being bigger than the icon? :) What's the most it can be?
