Installing multiple add ons

When installing multiple add ons at the same time, is it best to:
  • Upload and install them one at a time?
  • Upload all of them, then install them one by one?
  • Makes no difference either way?

My add on installer allows you to install multiple add ons at the same time.

You can either upload multiple ZIP files and everything automatically extracts etc. or you can upload all of the files to FTP then install with multiple XML files.

The benefit is only one cache rebuild happens.

Thanks Chris - is there any particular downside to using the add on installer (on a dedicated server)?

One thing is, if it doesn't work automatically after installing, you may need to make some directories writable. Some people consider this to be insecure and a risk not worth taking.

That being said, plenty of people just do it anyway. So maybe the risks aren't that high.
