I want to give you money ---- Will you turn me away?

I've used PayPal since 1999 / 2000 since being online, I did tons of sales through them for years, never really had any issues at all with them for years and years. Just trivial "cases" opened cause of buyer mistakes in end. I was permanently limited just several months ago, cause they did a review of the forum, and saw the Adult Content for foot fetish, and that was it. My life with PayPal was over for good. :(.

I totally forgot about the no adult pron allowed in their user agreement from many moons ago when I first signed up. At first, I thought to just "hide" those sections from members only, till review was done, but figured "Nah, I best just be honest about it, and let them there".. it killed my online business dealings with PayPal. If I start web designing again, to sell them, I can't use PayPal, I have to use Moneybookers or other options. Gah, still kicking myself!! :( ..

Can't do web template coding jobs / wordpress theme sales with PayPal, can't sell web designs taking PayPal, can't buy easily on Ebay or take payments easily no more. Dang, one wrong choice to do on a forum where I took payments for long time, and that's it. Over in less than 2 hours review time it took for site. >_<. *self kicks*

I luv paypal, never had any problem with them. I want to try google wallet but maybe after i get my nexus 4 or any other Android phone with NFC capability. By the way google is truly dominating the internet and I am afraid this will turn to a negative result.

Yeah, I have that as well...

Having all my information on mutliple Google type accounts only made sense. But if I ever purchase anything, even if given the options, I have always used PayPal for whatever reason. Habit I guess.

Used PayPal for 5+ years, never had one issue with them. Had one dispute and it was resolved fine.

That said, choices are nice. I wouldn't mind supporting other payment gateways but I'm not sure where to go. Quite a few people have PayPal.. I'm happy to try another service but it has to be fast, cheap, widely-available, and easy to use, for both buyers and sellers. I thought about Skrill but now I'm having 2nd thoughts.. any suggestions?

10+ years business account with Paypal and lot's of money has come into and gone out of my account during that time without issue (other than the occasional chargeback from thieves). Moneybookers & 2CO have outrageous fees for a seller plus they keep a reserve of each sale for 90 days and will not let you withdraw all of your funds out. Screw that. Google Checkout is the next best gateway besides Paypal. My personal rule...if you can't/won't use Paypal then I guess we won't do business. It's not worth it to me to bend over backwards to accommodate a very small minority of potential buyers.

Am I seriously the only person on the internet to have never had one issue with PayPal?
I never have...

If other payment processors want to realistically gain marketshare from PayPal, they simply would need to create an API that is compatible with PayPal... Generally developers don't want to spend the time building support for something that only a few people are going to use. BUT... if they didn't NEED to build that support and it already worked just by changing the API URL to theirs, then sure... no problem.

The other thing about PayPal is when you start doing advanced stuff, other payment processors simply can't do the same things (no matter HOW much time you put into supporting them). For example, I've never seen anyone besides PayPal support things like Chained Payments or Parallel Payments (more info here). So if you use those functions with PayPal, how do you even offer another payment processing solution even if you wanted to if they can't do it?

To be honest, I WISH I could support something other than PayPal... but until other processors even have the same functionality, it's not an option.

I agree Shawn, the only API that is even remotely as easy to work with (for me anyways) is Google CO...but as you said, no one offers as much diversity to sellers as Paypal. Plus, their fee structure is much more reasonable, particularly for high volume sales. That said, I do have both 2CO (Skirll) and Google Checkout accounts and offer them as alternatives to Paypal...but they are hardly ever utilized by my buyers which just re-enforces my belief that most prefer Paypal.

I think honest people don't have many problems with PayPal that aren't resolved with a phone call. I see a lot of eBay sellers complain about it, but it turns out most of them were trying to scam the system and were banned.

I've been using PayPal since it was owned by x.com, and I've had 3 people refuse to pay me by paypal. I just chose not to do any business with them, each of them were pretty suspicious about paying anyway.

Agreed... while I'm sure there are exceptions, the only people I've ever seen that had their PayPal account suspended were people doing things that violate PayPal's terms of service. Obviously they are going to say they were "unfairly" banned, but every time I've heard that, when it actually came down to it, they weren't unfairly banned.

The bulk of "unfair suspensions" I've heard about ended up being people trying to have a PayPal account in a country that was not their own country. For example PayPal isn't supported in countries like Pakistan or Egypt, so users will create PayPal accounts via US proxies. Eventually they get suspended and they feel it's unfair. Or maybe they are in Australia and they want open a US PayPal account to get better rates when dealing with PayPal users in the US.

I've also seen people "unfairly suspended" when they send money via "gifts" or "personal" transactions when in reality they are buying something... They do this because there are no PayPal fees with that, so they more or less are cheating PayPal out of their fees.

Again... I'm sure some people were ACTUALLY suspended for no good reason (with hundreds of millions of users, it's bound to happen once in awhile), but I've yet to come across any once they actually tell specifically WHAT they were suspended for.

If majority here took Google Checkout as alt option, I'd probably go on a huge buying spree (if/when I had funds of course) lol. ...I was just in resource manager browsing paid resource section and found a few I'd love to snatch up haha. Keep G.C. in mind for alt option. ;) lol.

I'm probably one out of the one million that actually admits and agrees that I was rightfully banned, and I alone have myself to blame.. Haha. xD Not really funny though, for myself, cause I only hurt me, not them. I failed to re-read their TOS/user agreements, by putting foot fetish porn on forum, and they clearly said they won't deal with sites with that material or for business transactions.

I've used PayPal for at least 7 or 8 years, tons of money moved, exchanged, sent and received. I have not had one issue. Been scammed, reported, solved easily. I cannot understand the bad PR PayPal always gets.
Same. But it would be impossible to have 100% satisfaction among all users. Name one company that fits that criteria. The thing is, angry / unsatisfied users are always much louder than happy / satisfied ones.

I've never had issues with PayPal either. It's even better for me now, as they support instant transfer to current accounts in the UK, so I don't have to wait 3 days for the funds to hit my account. I've been using them for the last 10+ years, and regularly put through a couple of £k a month via my online shop.

never had an issue with paypal. infact i find myself more inclined to purchase addons if its using paypal than something else.

We've kind of getting off topic...

The point of this thread is not exactly if you like or dislike paypal, nor is it demanding people to stop using it. The point of this thread is to suggest the people also offer an alternative.

For example...
  • cclaerhout
  • Daniel 'RTRD',
  • HowIChrgeLazer
  • Waindigo
  • wmtech
  • Lawrence
  • Jeremy P
  • Jaxel
  • 8thos
  • Arty
  • lms
  • Shelley
  • BamaStangGuy
  • sonnb
  • Mr. Goodie2Shoes
  • Dinh Thanh
  • xfrocks
  • simbolo
  • guiltar
This is only a small sample of handful of a much longer (larger) list of people who'd I'd love to send some money too.... If they had an alternative (not paypal or bank wire transfer).

Imagine how many others here who can not use paypal, who may have loved to make a donation from time to time. How much money do you think maybe lost by limiting yourself to only paypal?

The point of this thread is only to really suggest that people offer an alternative. They can keep using paypal, but something else beside it wouldn't be a bad idea.
