Maybe give it a retry and see if the error still persists. The first issue about showing the same notification again and again is not a browser issue.
And for animations not working, what version are you using?

I've tested it on all major browsers (latest version, except for IE) and the animations work.

I guess I could give it another go. Would it help if I caught the issue on video for you- if in fact it still happens? Also- if installed does it still bombard the members with loads of alert pop ups when first installed?
 
Seems to be working, is there a way via CSS to have it change color when hovering over the alert with mouse similar to Facebook? Also, I would like it a bit higher on the page.

Go to: AdminCP -> Appearance -> {Select Style} -> Templates -> gfnnotify.css

and the CSS selector for this is:

Add the block at the very top or very bottom.

Again go to: AdminCP -> Appearance -> {Select Style} -> Templates -> gfnnotify.css

and edit this block:

   bottom: 0;
   ...
}

And change the value of the bottom property to suite your needs :)

Would it be easier to just add the EXTRA.css?

Also at the very end of the banner closing the avatar disasters as it should but the banner seems to close too fast when it goes from right to left, can i slow this down?

This is as designed, if you want to fill in the avatar for the height of the notification, increase the avatar dimension from AdminCP -> Appearance -> Style Properties -> GoodForNothing Notification -> Avatar Size

Thats the odd thing, look closely at my screen shot, some avatars do fit the banner correctly, some do not.

Yes, that's because the overall height of the text container is less or equal to 64px for the two-liner item. For the three liner, the text height is more than 64px and that's why you see a gap below the avatar.
