XF 2.3 Full forum list on a page node used as the home page ?

Hi all,

I'm on XenForo 2.3.10 with a Xenfocus style. The Index page route is currently forums/. I'd like to make a page node the new home page (Index page route pages/home/), so the forum list moves to /forums/.

What I'm trying to achieve is a home page I can design, rather than it just being the forum index. It will also show the full forum list, but in a different, softer layout from the existing forum list page.

1. Is there a standard way to do this, ideally without extra custom templates I'd have to merge at every upgrade?
2. From what I've read, it may need a PHP callback on the page node to supply the forum list data. If so, is there an example to follow?
3. My home page has a longer page title than the rest of the site. I set it with an edit to PAGE_CONTAINER that applies it when the page is the forum list ($template == 'forum_list'). After the switch, the forum list will be at /forums/, so the longer title would move there with it. What should the edit check instead, so the longer title stays on the new home page?

Thanks very much for any pointers.
