The poll actually says... keep the sales thread but make a section for them, and Kier stated above he always planned to have a section for this. So until then I'm assuming the threads should be banned?

And fact... he encourages it as it would do well for the community(in his way).

For the record I didn't vote ;p

.......

Please remove the Ads from Off Topic, and either place them in another more appropriate forum, or bin them if they are from non Customers.

:)

Where did I say ban them? I agree that they should be in a separate section... as I have stated now several times :)

I also wasn't implying that you were one of the three votes to allow Spam in here.. sorry if you got that impression, I was implying that those who have active Spam threads in here are probably the ones who voted No.

LOL always fun isn't it :)

*kiss - make up* friends again?

PS... I edited my original post to say voted No, would you mind editing the quote :)

I very much agree. PLEASE, create a marketplace forum and move these sales threads to it. Give us back our Off Topic!

....and a new member introduction forum too, even if it is a sub forum of off topic so those threads can be segregated too !!

Russ and DF, please carry on the fight, don't make up now, it was just getting interesting to read !!

I'm tired of being the catalyst for trouble, looking for others to fill in so I can laugh at them !!

You do realise that wouldn't stop us from laughing at you... right? :p

One thing I have been thinking on, and I have seen this working beautifully on sites with Classified Forums, is to NOT allow replies to Classified ads in this soon to be created Classified Ad forum here.

This has the benefit of preventing open flame wars (like we have seen in recent times in here) and thus reduces the workload and stress for the Moderators and Staff.

It also has the advantage of preventing bumping of topics.

How would it work...

Well, Person X posts up their Special offer on hosting/Styles/whatever... and then invites anyone interested to either PM them, or to engage in discussion on their own site, whatever is preferred and relevant for them.

Once they have created their Ad, they cannot reply to the topic themselves, nor can anyone else - which means no more bumping, no more fighting, no more stress.

And of course... A clean and Spam Free Community heartland (Off Topic) where we can get on with the important business of barefooting, and muffin squashing, and cooking and eating and talking about both, and helping each other through daily grinds/traumas/Happy events etc etc, all the things that a good community should be about.

Ahhhh bliss

In my 'Classifieds' section we do not allow chit-chat or negative commentary in the thread. It's a rule of 'If you don't like it, move along'.

I'd love to see a xenforo.org (classifieds/unofficial add-ons/show off your site sections) with central registration so we don't have to register again. I'm also cool with whatever works for the whole community.

Trying to implement that on a forum full of admin's who are used to getting their own way would be like trying to herd sheep...

Personally speaking, moderating this community is rapidly becoming more and more of a chore due to all the unpleasantness, bickering and arguing.

Mods job gets harder as the community grows. I don't know what's solution to that. Stricter rules or more mods? You are doing an amazing job here Brogs.

I can't think of a more intense mod experience than trying to moderate a bunch of forum owners!!!

If it helps, I think the balance is good here; and I also think most people, if they're honest, do understand why threads are locked or posts removed. They'd likely do the same on their own forums.

Keep up the good work.

Cheers,
