Food Fantasia

Might have to give that way a go.

Mind you we don't make a big thing of the dinner as such. You hear a lot of people saying they cook the turkey Christmas eve or get up really early to do it but with us everyone knows that the turkey goes in the oven when ever I get up. We don't plan the turkey for the meal time, the meal time is planned around the turkey.

Having said that I am usually an early riser any day of the year so it's often ready for about 1pm anyway.

Now I've talked about it I'm starting to get really bugged by the origins too, I wonder if anyone in the family actually know, dad doesn't for sure.

That's good you don't pressure yourselves to have it done at any special time :D We had to make that change as my family (as in me, my hubby and son and my parents) always felt like we were just getting the left overs of my siblings and their families when they were through with the in-laws families at Lunch... by the time they got to ours it was late, they were stuffed in every sense of the word, and would leave early to go home and collapse.. which let's face is all anyone wants to do on Christmas night! .. so it was time for a change :) Now we're happy and they can all choose to join us or not, resulting in everyone being happier! :D

We have a tradition of smoked salmon and champagne for Christmas morning, whilst unwrapping gifts :D no idea where that started either.. but I am not complaining.. two of my fave things :D

We don't really have much family over Christmas day, just parents, sister, her girl(s) & brother in law although it would be nicer if he wasn't there. Grandparents, aunts and uncles usually come over boxer day.

That sounds better than pork pie.

Another tradition we have is carol singing Christmas eve in the town centre, I've dragged most of my mates into it now too.

We typically do ham or Cornish Hens as my husband doesn't like turkey.

We had a baked ham for the first time ever a few years ago.. mmmmmm yummy! It is usually too hot to do it at Christmas, and it isn't often available whole or half during the year.

What is a cornish hen?

Ha :D what fun! I hope you take some libations with you :p

For the last three Christmasses, we've done 'Appetizer Christmas.' We go to James' mom's house for Christmas Eve dinner and she does the whole tenderloin plus Yorkshire pudding, veg, etc., but on Christmas day, we start out with steel-cut oats and a whole bevy of toppings/mix-ins that we get ready a few days before - nuts, syrup, brown sugar, etc.

PLUS it's the one day of the year we stay in our jammies all day and douse our coffee with Kahlua and/or Bailey's Irish Cream. We get tipped early in the day! :D

Later in the day, we pull out cut up veggies, crackers, and dips and other finger foods. Here's last year's meal: http://www.ikeafans.com/home/holiday-table-setting/ and breakfast: http://www.ikeafans.com/home/appetizer-christmas-what-to-eat-for-breakfast/

It's a fun way to do meals that's totally less stressful than trying to coordinate a big meal and set the table, etc. More fun playing on the floor with the kids and their new toys!

I wanna come to your house for Christmas :D Jammies all day.. AND Kahlua coffee :D

Sounds brilliant Susan! I love the idea of lots of nibblies instead of a meal too!

I love Domino's online ordering thing. It's quite fun the way they designed their interface when you pick your pizza, add/remove toppings, and even up-to-the-minute status of your order that updates while you watch.

I think I convinced myself to order pizza too. :(

The dutch version is horrible. You find what you want and ends with "wanna pay online instead of calling store now? click here" and you lose your order and get a page that looks like 1953

Well, tonight is steak on the grill, potato (we tend to split one), salad, and I made the strawberry cheesecake mentioned way earlier in this thread. But this time I did take a photo of it. (It's our anniversary).

I could never really make omelettes look like omelettes well so I decided to settle for calling them egg tacos. :p

Just made this, with turkey breast slices and cheese, with a side of brown rice. :D

Nothing as complex as some of the other things posted here though. :(

Good for you :D How was it?

WOW! We do that too. I didn't think anybody else did.

Heheehehe.. well this Christmas morning we can drink a champagne toast to each other! :D

Happy Anniversary :D YUM! Cheesecake looks stunning Liz.. Did you remove the base this time like you said you wanted to?

Hey nice looking Egg Taco :D

I love brown rice, but no one else in this household likes it much :| I keep meaning to cook up a whole lot and freeze single serves for myself.

Well last night we were going to have Chilli - but Jeff wasn't feeling well, so wanted something simple.. I made him savoury mince and mash instead. I just had some of the mince, no spud, as I am on a diet, (lost 1.2kg /2.6lb already this week - no doubt it will slow down though!) was pretty tasty actually, I threw in a can of lentils to make it a bit healthier and coz I like them.
