mmm Ice Cream...

About the only good thing about those sorts of temps is the excuse to eat lots of ice cream :D

Flautas.. never heard of them :p All the Americans who have been here tell me we have dreadful Mexican food.. they are probably right, it isn't a huge thing here.. we're more into Asian I guess.

Are they any good?
They are -very- good.

And most people haven't heard of them, being more familiar with tacquito's (Which tend to have less flavor to me :().

And I eat ice cream more in the winter or when it rains then I do in the summer, where I eat more fruit based things like sorbet or popsicles.

It's a personal taste thing of course, but I noticed there was a downplaying of spices in general. Even in food that you expect to be spicy, like Thai and Mexican.

Very true in most cases yeah.. local suburban restaurants cater for a very wide range of patrons, and generally are less than authentic levels of spice shall we say ;)

Probably another reason why I much prefer to eat at home :D

LOL good, well I am glad our range of junk food met kept you amused :D

Currently eating Lunch... Falafels with some DYNAMITE hot peri peri sauce a little very light sour cream and a salad.

Quite yummy, but why are store bought Falafels always so dry?

Welp, with the kitchen torn apart, and no stovetop/oven to use (plus raining so no grill) we heated up the George Foreman to make burgers on the dining room table. Only problem was the waffle plates were still on it from yesterday's breakfast. lol Waffled burgers were actually quite good. Should have taken pictures, but the kids snarfed them down before we had a chance.

LOL you might have discovered a whole new burger craze! WafflBergs or Burgaffles

:D

Wowsers.. we had a week of those temps last year, horrible :( Try to stay cool!

Maybe PorkChopcicles?
Cooking them tomorrow while running 3 AC's throughout the house to keep it around ~70 inside; probably only going to broil them with some rub on them, as anything else might to hot (The kitchen doesn't cool due to the way the house is setup here).

Well I thought I'd best invest now while it's there, if I wait I'll probably never see them again.

Yeah good plan, never seen those before :D you will have to let us know what they are like.. in about 88 days time :p

You could always BBQ them outside, then retreat to the AC to eat? That is what we have to do a lot in Summer.. tooo hot!

Normally that'd be fine, but when its that hot out, I try to avoid it as much as possible, especially because my allergies go to hell around here.

Broiling them with a spice rub should come out pretty nice though~

Ahh Ok makes sense :)

I've never seen them either. I was just casually browsing the shop and I see this big Guinness logo and thought blast I'd best get those now.

Of course the one problem I have now is come Christmas actually remembering I bought them.

Yeah.. I know what you mean, one year I had a whole sideboard cupboard full of goodies I had purchased in October/November... and totally and utterly forgot about them at Christmas >_< lol still it was lots of goodies for a few months after Christmas! :D

I luuuuuuuurve Christmas :D Although we don't do the traditional English type big roast thing any more, too hot and too much here at Christmas, it is usually something much lighter and more modern.

What do you usually have?

We usually always have great big turkey although might go for goose this year for a change.

I'm not sure why exactly but the tradition for the Lewis family is always have a pork pie with bread and butter for breakfast on Christmas day. I have no idea when or why that originated but it's something the whole family do, my aunts, uncles, cousins, grandparents - everyone born on the Lewis side and those married in to it take the tradition on too.

I'll have to ask grampa how it came around, that's if he knows.

ahhh Well we sometimes have had a turkey, but decided a while ago we didn't really care for it that much and would rather have other stuff. We have often had a big seafood buffet, which is lovely and super easy if it is hot! A few years ago we decided to start having a main meal on Christmas Eve, instead of Christmas day.. it was the best thing we ever did! After years of Christmas Day being ordinary because.. either this one or that one .. or all of them couldn't make it until the evening (due to in-laws etc) and by that time everyone was tired and emotional.. and just over it... lol

So we said right, this is what we are doing.. formal multi course gourmet dinner on Christmas Eve, and casual and fun help yourself buffet on Christmas day.. turn up if you like or don't if you don't. Brilliant stuff! Have had 3 truly memorable Christmases in a row doing it this way :D

Funny re the pork pies :p I wonder what the origins are :D

Might have to give that way a go.

Mind you we don't make a big thing of the dinner as such. You hear a lot of people saying they cook the turkey Christmas eve or get up really early to do it but with us everyone knows that the turkey goes in the oven when ever I get up. We don't plan the turkey for the meal time, the meal time is planned around the turkey.

Having said that I am usually an early riser any day of the year so it's often ready for about 1pm anyway.

Now I've talked about it I'm starting to get really bugged by the origins too, I wonder if anyone in the family actually know, dad doesn't for sure.
