Food Fantasia

I'm on the fence with chicken - I can't say I love it but I don't dislike it either. However I could eat chicken kievs or chicken and asparagus pie until the cows come home.

I like lamb only if it has masses of garlic and herbs, or has been marinated in something delicious - just plain lamb though, not something I do very often.

Hubster would eat Piggy every time if it was up to him, but I prefer Beef or Chicken (but no one thinks chicken is special anymore, I still adore it myself!)
I'd eat pork or beef every time :p.

Yeah, it reminds me of this girl I knew...err...nevermind o_O

Soooo not going to ask.

---------------------

Well food wise, for the last few days I have been obsessed with trying a spread of Russian nibblie bits called Zakuski - so of course i had to give it a go!

I made...

Russian Black Bread - very good!

Meat balls - pretty good

Lobio (steady jmurrayhead) - which is a bean salad thing, was very good!

Eggplant caviar - hmm dunno about this tbh, slimey and a bit bland.

Piroshki - Little pastry things - two kinds a cheese/garlic/herb variety and a beef variety - fillings were good, pastry which was a bread dough not to my liking, I would prefer a crisper shell for these I think

Pickled Vegitables - nice.

Potato pancakes - bit bland

Marinated mushrooms - delicious!

and we had Smoked Salmon with the bread, which was honestly my fave bit LOL so next time I will save all the time not to mention the unGodly mess cooking all that made and go straight to the bread and Smoked salmon, with lashings of butter of course!

That sounds interesting. What components went in to the marinade?

With those mushrooms, they were tiny button ones and I gently sauteed them in butter and olive oil, with a bay leaf thrown in and a clove of garlic sliced in the butter oil mix, then when the mushrooms where done I added Red wine vinegar to cover generous amount of fresh black pepper and salt to taste and let them marinade, you don't have to cook them first, but I only had a few hours, and if you are not cooking them, they are better done days before so they actually take on the flavours and virtually cook in the vinegar.

There is also this method.... (scroll down the bottom to see the mushroom recipe) but I made all the other things on this page too.

Last few weeks I have been on a cake baking frenzy, I have made a lot of cakes, most of them went to hubby's work where they were appreciated apparently.

Buttercake cupcakes with pretty pink rose flavoured butter cream icing *yum!
Cappuccino cakes with coffee butter cream icing *ZOMG yum!
Super strong Almond Raspberry cake - gorgeous if you love the flavour of marzipan it tasted just like that.
Apple cinnamon cake *yum!

Trying some new recipes too, including a very unusual Stout and Chocolate cake, which if I am honest I am not sure I liked, it had a very odd flavour.

I am keen to try a red wine Chocolate cake sometime soon.

Sorry no pics, kind of got out of the habit, must get back into it again.

Would love to see what you do with it, I have only had goat a few times, once in a curry and once a very Greek BBQ style, both were really yummy!

fried intestines coated with Nepali spices. For your eyes only, it was beautifully red, thanks to the generous amount of paprika-like seasoning. The intestines were rather tough, unfortunately. Tomatoes, onions and a squeeze of lime to add some flavours to the dish.
