Font Awesome 5 Kickstarter Announced

Ahh it's close but I think I will be able to say I was right...my "tonight" ends in 49 minutes.

Nice!

Still don't see point in most of it though. Almost all of those goals are about "pro" version. Pro version cannot be used in software and distributed themes, unless designer pays extra $600 for theme license.

FA Free won't get much. Because project reached 1m goal, free version will get SVG framework. If its any good, that's the only good thing out of entire kickstarter.

Not being able to use "pro" version in themes without paying extra hefty fee makes it rather useless. There are thousands of free SVG icons out there, including massive Google Material Designs library that is already bigger than what FA 5 promises and is completely free.

But I'm hoping for best. I'm hoping SVG framework will be good, usable with free version.

But I can use FA5 Pro on my own websites as far as I know. As long as I manage them it should be fine.
I'm not selling / distributing it.

As Fred said. For design companies and developers, as long as it's hosted and managed by the developer it counts as part of the license too.

Other than that, it's a mere $20-40 and Font Awesome already contributes more to my sites than that, and with the upcoming FA5 it will likely become a very important part of my sites. It's just a donation out of appreciation.

pro version has no advantages over version 4. There is no reason to switch to version 5.

I prefer the look of 5 over 4, even without the parity (there are plenty to swap newer 5's into the old 4's.), that's more than enough reason for me.

Yes, it is much better designed.

However, why use version 4 or version 5 when you can use both? :D

See https://simplesvg.com/ (under construction, but its almost complete and everything is working except for documentation pages)
FontAwesome 4: https://simplesvg.com/icon-sets/fa/
FontAwesome 5 Solid: https://simplesvg.com/icon-sets/fa-solid/
FontAwesome 5 Regular: https://simplesvg.com/icon-sets/fa-regular/
FontAwesome 5 Brands: https://simplesvg.com/icon-sets/fa-brands/
and thousands of other icon sets. You can use them all on same page without loading massive amount of fonts.

Loving FA5 currently, I kickstarted the Pro version and I'm already using it on my dev xF2 site. Most of you will see what we've done tomorrow when we upgrade our live site to xF2.
