That way we'd be one step closer to a more traditional blog type feel, along with the thread_view template modifications, if you decide to do those.

While I'm updating my notes, can you clarify exactly what a "blog type" featured thread should look like?

What about those with no permission to view featured threads?
Should they still see the "blog type" layout?
Currently they see no indication when a thread is featured.

I still don't have any idea what a "blog style" featured thread is supposed to look like.

There has been zero feedback or interest from other users so I'm probably going to drop this one from the suggestions list.

I could make some suggestions here but I'm pretty good with the current feature set. It's so simple it's stupid proof. But if you want to add an option to float the icon to the right on a per thread basis I wouldn't be mad.
----
Edit: I suppose even a global switch would be a reasonable compromise.

I am still very much interested in the blog template feature of yours and I think a lot of other folks as well.

If it were to be added, here's a few ideas for it's feature/design set.
  • Featured Image BG on the top. It can either be another resize of the thumbnail image or a completely new one //Completely optional just as the other options.
  • Author Avatar, name and date on the top as well i.e no traditional postbit layout with the username/avatar/customfields on the left for the 1st post.
  • Social Icons have the option to be either on the top of the post or bottom.
  • I take it that the 1st post will be sticked? If so the posts/' comments' afterwards should be follow the postbit layout, that way it gives complete freedom //Possibly with it's own separate template for maximum editing.
  • It would be great for a per forum setting to enable the blog template design.
  • Sidebar option and compatibility with the widget framework.

The blog style layout has been pushed down the list for now due to the lack of interest.

It's a lot of work and by all accounts very few people are interested in it.

Indeed it is a lot, however for starters (whenever it's turn does comes up) a standalone template would be suffice.

I don't understand, can you clarify?

I mean having a dedicated 'article/blog' template, with the basic option of sticking the 1st post and having threaded replies below. Kind of like a Wordpress article view based on threads. It can be really handy for news/reviews/editorials.

I like this idea .
I tried to simulate this with just css , but I have no idea how to add a css class to the first post.

Why?

It has been suggested before but I don't really see the point.

RSS feeds already exist for each forum, from which the featured threads originate.

Does anyone even use RSS?
In 30 years of computing I have never used an RSS feed.

I want to use the RSS feed myself, to feed the featured threads into places like our Twitter and Facebook page.

Why would we ever feature threads? Those threads already exist in each forum....

I use it and like it very much. I use RSS to automatically send my new posts to social networks. It's a time saver for me.

I also use RSS feeds from other sites to post on my forum. My users really like all those information they found on one place. But of course it's all about what your forum is about :)

But no need to have extra RSS for featured threads (for me).

I use RSS a lot to read posts from other gaming sites (Eurogamer, Europe PlayStation Blog etc). I know others who use it to keep up with forum posts on phpBB forums. XenForo RSS feeds are poor in comparison and why I posted this suggestion.

I can see why some people may want RSS for Featured Threads if using it to feed content onto social media.

Yup i also utilize RSS to push and pull content.. Hence the name "Really Simple Syndication" and its intended purpose to publish frequently updated information.. RSS has been a staple in my toolbox from the beginning. Although i personally dont see its usefulness inside a FT, but then im sure we all use FT uniquely so who knows.
