I thought if it gets granted, the trial date is set for November, or is that just a first hearing or something?
October 17th is the date of the hearing for Plaintiff's motion for leave to amend the complaint (to add new claims and new defendants)

November 7th is the date of the hearing for Defendants' motion for summary judgement.

November 29th is the date of the trial as currently scheduled.

Legal minds out there, help us poor mortals.

If I think about this logically...

The judge has all of the pretrial motions and such in his possession now.
If he grants the motion today, would that mean he's unlikely to grant the summary judgement on 7 Nov?
If he rejects the motion today, it would allow the possibility of granting the summary judgement on 7 Nov?
Granting the motion today, most likely leads to trial on 29 Nov.
Rejecting the motion and the summary judgement leads to trial.

So the outcome of today is either still hope that this all goes away on 7 Nov or pretty much knowing it goes to trial.

Does logic hold or does logic blow up in the face of a convoluted legal system?

Sorry, I got mixed up - granting the motion today will mean IB can add more, frankly, rubbish claims & waste even more time. - i.e. we start all over again.

Dismissing it will mean that we then need to wait until the 7th of Nov to see whether it goes to trial. (As far as I understand it)

If today's motion is granted, Plaintiff will be permitted to file a second amended complaint, alleging several new claims and naming several new defendants. Those new defendants cannot possibly be expected to mount a defence and face trial in just a few weeks, so the current November 29th trial date would likely be pushed off for many months.

If today's motion is denied, the next thing will be the hearing for Defendants' motion for summary judgement on November 7. If that motion is granted, there will be no trial on the claims stated in the first amended complaint.
