Biggest Board Built On XF From Scratch

Nice style there. I think you have waaaay too many forums and sub forums though.

The site is for video game leagues...each league has it's own forum.=) Thanks for the compliment on the style...though it got a little wonky when I upgraded to Beta 2.

Having too many forums is overwhelming for visitors and makes a forum seem less busy than it really is. I recommend you group different leagues which will reduce the number of forums you have and make your forum seem more active and also entice people to join in. Off course for the busier leagues you can have a separate forum :).

I am wondering for his situation it might be different than typical forums. I see why he is doing it this way and it seems to make sense for what he is doing.

What is a "Big Board"?

At Tradition Sports Online (we also just switched domains), we have a fairly large number of posts.

We are using xF on our live boards and plan to continue doing so. Coming from vBulletin, it is as stable as 3, and far better than the test of vB 4 we did.

How did the move go?

I should ask this a different way, how long did it take you to move all of that and where there any problems?

Maybe, I was just telling him what I thought. I can see why it makes sense, however if they aren't active enough then theres no need for a whole forum for them, they can be grouped some how, some way :).

I should ask craveonline is they have any intention of converting their IP to xenforo, starting with hfboards.com

Each league's content needs to be segregated, by user request anyway. Each is active, otherwise they are removed. It is kind of a unique way of doing things, but it is what works for us.=)

I have thought about creating "master" nodes for each sport and type of league, but that just leads to a click to get where you are going.

Honestly, it went better than I expected.

I was lucky in that I timed the move with getting a new server, so I just copied the old vBulletin tables over to the new server and did the import there while there was no traffic. It took quite a while, I would say about 4-5 hours total to import the content. That was on Beta 1 build though.

Nice style.

Just in case you didn't know, viewing on a small/netbook screen, your top ad covers about 1/3 of your 'Members Online Now' block.

Thanks.

Before I redid the style, I set the page width to avoid this, but there has to be an better way to scale those ads.=)

Started my board from scratch using vb3 in July 2010 and became a xenforo based board in october last year, so far it's been perfect. My site is a spin off of users and disgruntled staff from an actual big board site that had a owner/admin issue killing the place. My users LOVE xenforo, "vbulletin seems like a dinosaur". These are people used to posting on vb incarnations since 2004 so it's a great compliment. I had 14,000+ image attachments imported from vb3, with little error in the process. Managed to integrate xenforo/wordpress (thank you xfrocks ;)) with my own rolled wp theme that looks like the forum exactly, added video from my CDN last week and I'm getting 5,000 plus counted hits on the articles now we post in the wordpress "mainpage" in the span of one month, as we are really kicking things up a level lately with content, 15-20 new forum users per day are registering without much need to prod them to do so.

Big boards here I come. seriously, lol.
I give it another 6 months and we'll be killing it with posts and users. Bad choice of words actually. See below.

My forums are very adult (but not porn, much - think ogrish and its old forum ..or rotten dot com) so no link :p

Just gonna add this is the greatest forum software I have ever used, bar none, and it's still only a freakin beta! I had to answer a whole damn thread worth of "why has the arcade and casino vanished" though lol and some .gif making dude almost had a heart attack when his avatar changed into a .jpeg.

By the time you read this there probably will be major changes to the stats.

We launched a Beta from scratch using XF just 10 days ago and here's our stats:
2,877 Discussions
54,827 Messages
3,260 Members

we started the Beta by telling 16 people and asked them if they knew anyone that could come in and help shake down the technology and as well help build content for our formal launch on March 1. Have had very few if any problems with the technology other than the expected habit changes from members use to vB on other travel forums. As this is a savvy first adopter crowd of travelers, many questions about apps and mobile strategy but that of course has been commented upon as coming. Very, very happy of the choice with XF and later this week moving to Amazon EC2 as we expect big things once we go live. Just can't say enough positive things about XF and we're only looking forward to when our Beta members get tired of asking about our algorithms related to Trophies—it's the frequent flyer mile obsession they have!

I'm trying to see the SEO capabilities of the software and wondering how's the response other admins have received after setting up XF?

Are there any BIG boards in the making (say 25k+ posts) built from scratch apart from XF's own board?

I'm thinking it may be a bit premature for a big board to appear that has started from scratch. The group would likely have to be posting non-stop for a few months before it catches on.
