Apple Fall Event - iPhone 8, iPhone 7S and Watch 3

Apparently Craig Federighi addressed the FaceID issue he had on stage:

The bio-lockout that I experienced on stage would require several interacts by other people with your phone (where they woke up the phone). For those of us who have been living on the iPhone X over the last months this has never been a real problem (hence my shock when it happened to me on stage! :-)

So it was locked out from usage, just from other people waking it up rather than from it not recognizing him. So it wasn't from being restarted (which would've shown a slightly different error message anyways).

Also, apparently it'll work with "most" sunglasses as long as they allow enough IR light to pass through them and you have to actually stare at the phone for it to unlock (which may make for an awkward interaction when using Apple Pay lol)

My new iPhone 8 Plus is coming tomorrow from EE. I don't really like the look of FaceID... it looks like it'd be a pain when using Apple Pay, and that notch looks like it would annoy me.

I just really like that they've brought back the wired headphones, now using the lightning port. Not sure why they tried to skip that with the 7, attempting to get people to go wireless. Wireless headphones are a pain... the fact you have to ensure you charge them, another charger to do so, and then if they go flat when out you got nada. I know... such a simple thing... but I love to listen to a Spotify playlist when walking the dogs each day. Wired is small, simple and easy. Not sure how the ugly wireless versions went from Apple... but YUK. Hideous little things hanging from ears.

I'm buying the X when released next month. Just updated one iMac here with the top of the range i7 and SSD... just need to order the 64Gb of RAM, as Apple RAM is wayyyyy over priced. Crap all comes from the same factory more than likely... $2200 AUD for 64Gb RAM or $850 after market. Hmmm....

The X is a bit pricey too. See how that travels. My current is the 6s, and when I got it I thought I would just go the top storage 256Gb, but honestly, I'm lucky to have ever used probably 30Gb. I keep a clean phone, exporting video and images each month to our network storage. Think I will be sticking to the cheaper version of the X this time round, 64Gb.

Bought the 8+ on Friday to replace my older 6+. I recall it took me around three months to get the 6+ due to demand, meanwhile for the 8+ I just walked into a Target and bought one, only a week or two after release. Guess most people are waiting for the iPhone X.

It's not very exciting, but for people like me who only upgrade every 2-3 years, it's fine. I like the design, am familiar with it, and it's much faster. Plus, the 3D Touch is kind of neat. Nothing groundbreaking but does offer some nice shortcuts. Expensive, but I do like it quite a bit. And wireless charging is neat... Another one of those nice-to-haves that should have been on the iPhone years ago, but better late than never.

Me for that. I only upgrade every 2 to 3 years too, but I would rather wait for the X than upgrade to just the plain Jane iPhone 8 version, which to me, is really just the 7s. The X is more like an 8 version. Preorder that bad boy in a week or so, for the first week in Nov I think it arrives.

I was going to preorder mine... but decided to wait until release, just to see if its a good version or not, considering its a decent change from the norm for Apple. If there are no major gripes by mid Nov... I'm ordering mine.

I've not upgraded IOS for the same reason... as its basically riddled with issues this version.

Look forward to reading whether its a quality product or got problems.

Anyone got one then? :)

I got my order in within about 10 mins of going live, which was as soon as the store started working for me, but even with that my delivery isn’t due for another week or so :(

Might just see if I can get one to reserve in store every morning this week.

Anyone in the UK who is considering the iPhone X, check out the deals available from Sky Mobile.

That's not a bad deal with your network plan. I was planning on the iPhone Upgrade Program, 20 months @ £55/mo but that doesn't include my data plan (was probably gonna go PAYG with O2 for that, as I do currently).

I think Sky use EE as their carrier though, and EE has awful signal near me.
