I'd rather one major upgrade every 2 years at the minimum. With minor updates every 3 months.
But we won't get listened to by these developers who have their agendas set.
Their company, their choice; you have choices too.

Version 5 was released 10 years ago, right?
In 10 years, only a small percentage of forums have transitioned to the 5th version, correct?
Man, that's like looking through a time tunnel at the moment of the Big Bang.XF has been doing that from the start.
First beta, then RC.

I am on a local site that has remained resolutely on VB 3.8 due to integration with the rest of the site that the owner does not feel like messing with. I nudged him about XF years ago but so far he's been doing his own improvements and fixes to the old VB instead of upgrading or migrating. In 10 years, only a small percentage of forums have transitioned to the 5th version, correct?

Point from me is that you have members to worry about as well as your forum. It's about time you took responsibility for your own forum. The point that people here have is there's nothing stopping you paying for renewal on the day you want to use paid features such as open a ticket, or grab an update. You can delay renewal to the date you actually need it, in order to optimize your costs.
Imagine today you have a 2 hour shift today, and 1 espresso gives you 3 hours of wakefulness. You work from home and your shift starts at 10 am. You're ready at 9 am and drink your espresso and do nothing until 10 am. You work your shift until 12 pm and the espresso wears off.
You actually need to work overtime, an hour extra so now you need to drink a second espresso.
Now, if you had just waited until you really needed the espresso at the start of your shift, it would last you through the shift, and the unexpected overtime.
So the morale of the story is don't spend money until you really need to (don't have your espresso before you actually need it).
software. It means that i sometimes have to learn to shut up and not make comments about stuff.you have members to worry about
This is very familiar to me. I am the owner of a forum that is 20 years old. For 19 years, the forum was running on Vbulletin 3. That's a very long time. Last year, I switched to Xenforo and my only regret is not doing it much earlierI am on a local site that has remained resolutely on VB 3.8 due to integration with the rest of the site that the owner does not feel like messing with. I nudged him about XF years ago but so far he's been doing his own improvements and fixes to the old VB instead of upgrading or migrating.
Que?And the lack of basic features, such as the ability to paste images from the clipboard
I think he was talking about vbulletin 3.8No issues here w/ copy pasting images![]()
No. 2.3 certainly will break some add-ons in some way.2.3 won’t break a massive number of addons, is that correct ?
And should be relatively easy to upgrade, correct ?
It’s the 3.x series that WILL have those issues, correct ?
