Your Favorite Apps for Macbook Pro?

This is driving me nuts. How do you do page up and page down on a MacBook?

Also, how do you make the scroll bar always show?

The newer systems did away with the scroll bar - crazy, eh? It's still there 1/2 ass.....sometimes, but the idea is to use multi-touch (the trackpad) to do it.

It starts out stock in reverse of what you might think - use two fingers on the trackpad and swipe up and the page goes down. If you want it set the other way, go to system prefs - trackpad - scroll and zoom.

Ahh... Yeah that is crazy... It's annoying in Xenforo because the scroll bar doesn't show when changing a thread prefix.

Thankfully though Google found me a quick answer :D

System Preferences/General: http://osxdaily.com/2011/08/03/show-scroll-bars-mac-os-x-lion/

Another thing that was frustrating me was lack of 'right-click'.

System Preferences/Trackpad: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4306897?start=0&tstart=0

One thing that sucks is their spell correction seems to suck in Safari. If I type bastrd then right-click bastrd, the only suggestion it gives me is 'basted' when you know 'basterd' should be a choice in the suggestions. I'm sure Firefox would've done that.

Okay one more question. How do I 'delete'? The delete button on a macbook functions as a 'backspace' instead.

What restrictions?

Don't believe everything you read. Judge it for yourself.

Metro isn't exactly forced on you.

Yep, when you log in you're in Metro. But, then all you need to do is click "Desktop" to be taken to your normal Desktop.

You hover your mouse in the corner where the Start button used to be and clicking that takes you back to Metro (i.e. the Start screen).

So that is a pretty big changed forced on you, but, think about it. How much time do you spend in the Start menu? How do you use it?

Whenever I need to launch something that isn't on my desktop, I go to the Start screen, type its name and it pops up instantly.

I would use Metro more on a touch screen device. Some of the Metro based apps and games available give a good tablet experience, but I have to say I don't use them while using the laptop traditionally. I probably would if it was a tablet or had a touch screen.

So yeah, it's not all that bad. Try it.

That being said, I do want a Mac. I'm just poor :(
I'll use the maxmenus for 'Start' menu on Macbook. Hey you should at least get a cheap Mac man I think it will be worth it and you should just up the price of some addons to afford it.

MS Office (only good thing about MS IMO)
Cyberduck (trying Transmit now, let's see which one I like more)

GrandTotal
SABnzbd
Firefox
ClamXav
Safari & mail (only with the classic features set)

Fetch (ftp)
BBedit (text editor)
and Photoshop Elements for basic web and other graphics
Fetch. (y)
I've been using it probably since my Mac SE/30 days. I thought I was the only one left.
I'm a BBEdit fan too.

Well tried and compared them. I prefer Cyberduck's UI overall although Transmit has some nice features. However apart from Transmit having tabs there isn't that much difference except Cyberduck is free. No reason to change.

When I look up Cyberduck and Transmit in the App store they both are Paid apps.

Although I asked for paid apps, I can't buy them now, I'm looking for free apps.

Cyberduck is free on their site yet paid on the app store, even their FAQ says it's free. Not sure what's going on there.

Whatever runs on my iPad, things like Pages and Numbers or talks to my Windows 8 tablet ultrabook...Dropbox is a killer app.

1. Evernote
2. Pixelmator for Photoshop replacement.
3. Zoc for terminal
4. Aperture for managing photos.
5. BBEdit for coding.
6. Folx or iGetter for Download Manager.
7. Transmit for FTP/SCP
8. Chrome, Firefox, Dropbox & Skype for every installation

Just found out about another great little app called Alfred. It allows you to create any hotkey for any action. For example you could create a hotkey 'alt+x' and make it launch XenForo community in Safari.

What do ya'll use to burn movies to DVD? I used this program called Burn but every movie I've burned has lines. Looks messed up.
