It's not just the matter of them changing the editor it's the other stuff around it that needs to change as well.
What kind of changes are you looking for?

Also what is stopping you from making changes yourself? I've been messing around with Xenforo for almost 2 months now, and I still haven't found many things I am unable modify or create myself.

Some of us have made lots of changes.
We're also waiting for 2.4 to drop so we can see what we can add to the editor ourselves.
So what we're in the process of doing is having lots of our own discussions about where things are at.
None of my crew are as rude as some of those "why are we waiting" crew.
That's why you don't see me complaining about why it's taking so long.

Even if 2.4 does make changes that might cause problems for customisation, that is fine. It’s not like as soon as 2.4 drops that you should update.

Stage that update, make fixes then push to production when ready.

We also don’t have details on what exactly is being changed. Only that x, y and a features are being updated or added.

But that’s not the point, I think you skipped over my question completely. What’s stopping you? I personally see no reason to stop changes being made by me on 2.3, the only time I’ll slow down is when 2.4 so I can focus on updating my changes. But even then I’ll be carrying on with any patches that need creating to my current content until I’m fully ready to make that upgrade.

What's stopping me?

I've already made all of my changes.

For anyone interested in what a Social Feed would be like in XenForo, you can check out what I've been working on here:

You might like this:

TH feeds addon

TroubleFree pools has this addon in use.

Not sure I like it.

Some notes:

(1) TFP doesn't have many images and it just creates a wall of text.
(2) I can't "fill" my feed with content I want (subscribing) or the site doesn't do it for me (based on my clicking, posting, searching).
(3) TFP has an unhappy medium.
This is a fine feed

This is too few posts per page.

Is there a working version I could see? If it works well enough, I won't waste my time working on my own.

What I've been working on has a follow feature and a separate feed with only who you're following...

I have achieved a bit on one of my forum. Still not close to social media, but better that it was:

Yeah, not bad. It's an improvement for people looking to scroll through threads instead of thread titles...

The problem is money. Big capital has settled into online community building and has chosen its champions. They did not choose Xenforo.

The average community builder has moved to Discord, and the flagship enterprise customers have moved to Discourse. Those two companies have more VC money than they can spend, and more developers and talent than every other forum software combined.

They both offer entirely free products.

Whoever is left at XF aside from Chris has gone silent, and the reason seems pretty clear to me. Their resources are drying up, and if someone who's absent is siphoning up what's left, they need to stop and focus it on whoever is still putting in the work, i.e., Chris.

I don't like discourse, I've looked at it. It fits best for a support forum or a product forum. If I were start a forum today, I don't think I'll be going with XF again. It's 2026 soon, you either build something more than a forum, or just create a Facebook group.

I don't like it either, neither for looks nor their licensing which forces all plugin authors to open source.

But I also don't have billions of dollars to shape the industry.

I really like XF, but I don’t know what audience the forum can target in today’s world.

You need more than a forum to target younger audience.

It’s also lots of time sinking to modify the forum to an extend that can look very modern.
You need great content along with great people.
Forums are great fun if you have the right topics and themes.
With my own forum it's great as it is but we need more members.
Unfortunately we had some that trolled the place and caused some issues.

I administer two XF forums. They are both successful for their intended purpose. Neither forum sells any product, nor allows advertising. Both forums are for the purpose of promoting open & organized discussion about topics focused on the purpose of the forum.

The two forums I administer do not "target" any age or audience. Rather, the purpose is to provide a sense of community and conversation among folks with similar interests.

XF developers: Keep doing what you are doing...just my opinion.
