XF 2.4 general discussion, feedback, complaints, random off topic posts, etc.

I have been with XenForo since 2010, right from the beginning, since the guys from vBulletin left. But now I am considering switching. The reason? Not much is happening anymore, the updates are not a big step forward, you pay and know that there won't be any updates for a very long time, and when there are, they are nothing major. Please be as committed as you were at the beginning.
Honestly, these threats you come up with telling us that you want to switch to elsewhere are a bit stupid.
Stop demanding stuff and go and experiment over on another forum software. People do that all the time.

Just asked AI "When can we expect XenForo 2.4 and 3.0 to be released?". Needless to say its not very optimistic.

Grok 3.0's response...
If this was really the answer from Grok

  • XenForo 2.0: Beta in October 2010, stable on March 8, 2011 (~5-month beta-to-stable cycle).
you have a perfect example why you should not trust AI. And at the same time you give a perfect example that still people use and trust AI, despite having all the information in their own hands already and there is absolutely nothing new of relevance to expect. Still people use it, trust it and don't even do the slightest probability checks. I guess as a civilization we are doomed.

Well, one of the oldest forms of AI is spelling and grammar check and lets just say it is way too often underused.

It's annoying because it stuffs your own language up. It Americanises everything.
Not if you use the right settings. I write using LibreOffice and its spelling and grammar checker has support for most major forms of English including Australia (I checked). Even MS supports Canadian English now, which it hasn't always. That said, I don't use tools like Grammarly so not sure what language support is like for them.

Great news! Was a little nervous coming into today's announcement :).
what were you nervous about ?
Prioritizing editor update is great, thanks.
other priorities came up.
QOL is the motif, but I think it's worth being clear that the scope for XF 2.4 is largely set already and expanding or changing it is the opposite of what we're trying to do
I wonder what caused the big turnaround ?

Not necessarily. :)

If your article gets linked and discussed on reddit, googling even for the exact article title is very likely to return the Reddit thread. Talk about irony - and (shady) deals.

Edit:

I got banned from Quora too - LOL.
My Quora appeal was rejected. So I signed up with a new account with a different email and put my backlink in my bio again. They seem fine with that as long as you don't add links when answering questions.

If I was considering XF as my community solution and landed on their homepage, I might be scared off by the fact that the Highlights end in 2021 and mention a project that was never realized and a super old patch. If you ever visit a website and their latest news or highlights section is from years ago, don't you go elsewhere? Somebody should keep on top of that. Good business for XF is good for us all but this gives the impression of a defunct project (reminiscent of the now-defunct Vanilla forums and how their Best Of section ends in 2021).

Yeah - Internet without its basic building element, links, is what the corporations openly require. LOL.
**** 'em.
