XF 2.3 ?

Got 2 original Surface Books (2015 era - now running Windows 10) and one of the original Surface Pro's (the small one from 2013).... other than battery life (non-replaceable batteries) they've been rocking and rolling along really well. In fact, I use them to control the telescopes when I'm out doing captures.
We have our executive team at work all using Surface Pros (they like being able to switch to a tablet for some situations, like taking notes in meetings, but also need a decent laptop or substitute) and I don't think we've had any major issues. They have some quirks that caused us a bit of support grief at the beginning but we ultimately got them all sorted. They are coming up for replacement in another fiscal year or two and I imagine they'll all want Surfaces again.

My new home laptop is an Acer Travelmate (we used to use them at work 24 years ago when I started and only switched because HP has a better warranty and an onsite service option if you buy extended) running Win11 and so far so good. It's no rocket but I just need it for my writing, social media, and maybe a bit of graphic work (making cover images for my stories mostly). I did put more RAM in but that's mostly because I plan to run a small VM to start learning Linux.

Bizarre but random fun fact, after the Windows 10 years of regular feature updates, they're actually looking to move back to a 3 year release cadence with Win12 and onwards (Win11 came out in 2021, with Win12 on track for next year)

Which would be troubling if XF moved to an even slower release cadence.

word to pfd which worked before you had to pay for pdf's via adobe
Errr... I have NO issues saving a Word document as a PDF with no intervention from ANY Adobe product and that's from both my Mac and my Windows machines. Been that way for several years now.
updates which stuffed your pc up
Wow... 2 that have affected me since the era of Windows 95... and one that affected me with my MacOS system in about 1/2 the same amount of time of use. Yep... those Windows updates really killed me when compared to my Mac.
Now, let's not even talk about how easy it is to do a system recovery image from Windows to an external hard drive and boot from a recovery CD to install on a NEW hard drive.... never mind that with MacOS (last time I tried upgrading to an SSD) you had to fall back to the original OS that was installed, then upgrade, then maybe (didn't work for me) you could recover to your current level from your Time Machine backup.
So please... Apple is not the end-all/be-all of computers and OS systems.... I have (and use) both.

internet browsers microsoft used
Yep... Edge is pretty good...and you can even use it on your Mac if you want to. ;)
Edge and Safari are bouncing around 11% of the browser market each... needless to say, Chrome stomps both of them.

Depends one ones needs.... for some of my processing software, I simply HAVE to have a Windows based computer as they don't support any Apple product.

Yep. haven't had any problems at all with my mac.

had heaps of issues with hp, acer, and other pc's because they were faulty

You have no idea.

Everything about microsoft is annoying.
From the errors, updates which stuffed your pc up, clip art which didn't work properly, word to pfd which worked before you had to pay for pdf's via adobe, to the internet browsers microsoft used.
Mac > PC
It sure sounds like you don't know how to use a computer.

You have no idea.
Pretty sure I've got a better idea than you do since I still support Windows desktops (and servers) along with a few Mac's, several Ubuntu Linux installs (server), 2 RHEL installs (server), a Debian install (server), and 6 VMWare installs in commercial environments (primarily medical related).... you see, I don't base my position simply upon what my one person ownership impression is.
Some of us actually are IN the IT industry... we don't bloviate and try to make it appear we know where we speak from. We actually deal with it in a live scenario.

Interesting, I'm in healthcare IT. Home care primarily. All-MS environment, but we use Hyper-V for our VM hosting.

And, yeah, I always find it amusing when someone tries to tell pros like us what is "best" in IT. 24 years on this job plus installed and admin'd a Windows network for my last 3 or so years on my previous job (prior to that, I was admin for a mini-computer, basically a small mainframe about the size of a washer and dryer).

Given how long 2.3 is taking, does anyone think we'll ever get to 3.0?

Unfortunately, I have my doubts given the climate that forums now find themselves in.

Given that a 3.0 would signal a major change, probably requiring redoing add-ons and styles, as happened going from 1 to 2, I would be happy to see continued evolution of 2.x for now. Perhaps pick up the pace of that evolution, but I see no need for anything drastic enough to necessitate incrementing the first level.

Now,.if certain suggestions,.like adding Postgres support or making it a generic CMS with forum support built-in were to happen, then we are likely into a 3.x.

Oh, I wasn't even talking about when I was in government service in IT before retiring. Did pretty much everything, from running and terminating cable and fiber to administering the network and administering an AS/400. I do my current stuff at no charge to the clinics.
The clinics prefer VMWare because the owners are somewhat familiar with it, and at the level they need they can get the Dell version of VMWare for free.

It's too bad this thread is now completely useless.
It was never meant to be useful... it was started out as a joke. And that's why it was posted in the Off Topic area.
Just thought I'd be the first to ask .... when can we expect XF 2.3 ?

:ROFLMAO::X3: - Ok, I'm outta here lol

Yeah derailings happen unfortunately to threads like this where things are seen as jokes.
As pointed out in a previous post... I will directly refer you to the very first post in the thread... then come back and tell us what the intent of the thread was.
In fact, simply read the entire first page of this thread and tell us what the intent was.
At least the "derailings" are discussions of something one has control over... the release date of XF 2.3 is not.
