Xenforo hosting specialist?

Nimbus's backups are stored off-site*. I.e. they store them in a different country, to ensure that if something would go terribly wrong (Scots invading London and making Haggis out of the servers at the data center), the backups can be used to get you up and running again in no time.

* If you choose the off-site backup plan (£10). They offer an on-site one too for IIRC £7. I just activated backups on my account yesterday after Matt Cooper reached out to me having noticed I didn't have them.

Anyway, another vote for Nimbus. I've used several hosts in the past and they're easily one of the best.

Still doesn't justify charging, more so if only daily. We do ours off-site as well, we do it hourly and 100% free. With the premium prices Nimbus charges, I would assume it was included in the package.

Well I had my first significant "go slow" on Nimbus tonight. I emailed their out of hours support at 10.50pm and got a reply at 10.51pm to say they were working on it :) Fixed shortly after.

With regards to backups, I also use their monthly option. I also run a cron that dumps the database daily, so I can back that up myself too.

Nice! Try getting the same type of support from one man hosting 'companies'.

OP, As you are from Belgium, I would recommend a host based in Europe due to lower ping times. Everyone who has used Nimbus has had only positive things to say about that company, whereas some of the other companies mentioned on this thread have positive as well as extremely negative responses.

Good luck on your choice.

It must've been a general issue, cause I had the same problem. It's fixed now as you said.

And I also use their offline backup option, and I'm happy to pay for it.

In general I have zero complaints about Nimbus, I had many problems with previous hosting companies, my site's running fine with Nimbus and I get good support from them, I'm happy.

Don't pick a host based on the backups. That's a ridiculous way of going about things. You always want to make your own backup anyway...especially if you need to move.

As far as R1Soft, I don't trust it as far as I can throw it. Got rid of it quite some time ago. The recent Site5 fiasco should be reason enough. It took R1Soft over 3 days to restore a measley 2TB of data...3 days! The people who didn't have their own backups on that particular server were left with almost a week of downtime, and couldn't move their site anywhere else, either to another server or host.

We take multiple backups (not using R1Soft), but we have had issues too. We had a VPS server over a year ago, for example, in which the RAID card failed, and corrupted the entire drive array over a matter of days. Our daily backups were corrupted, as were our weekly backups, by the time the card/server failed completely. We had the server back up in a couple hours, but our only backups that weren't corrupted were a couple weeks old.

So even on a host where backups are made regularly, you would be stupid to rely on those backups. If you value your site, you need to have multiple backups. The host not making them for you should not be a deal-breaker.

Ok so i'm now over a month With Nimbus and i'm sorry to say that i expected a lot more from them.
I have several issues with them due to backups, speed and Ddoss attacks and now with permissions that out of the blue all seem to be changed.
For that kind of money each month i expected a good service but what do i get for an answer?
Most sites have post migration teething issues until the settings are tuned to match what you need
Never had this before. My 15 bucks a month with hawkhost was far better in support terms.
So i'm sorry to burst that bubble but i'm not satisfied.
Any other hosts out there?
I'm thinking of switching again!:(

When you say permissions you mean your xenforo permissions? Surely that's not something that has to do anything with the host?

Nope, permissions of all my sites that change automaticly.
So it is the host.

Slightly fickle and knee-jerk. I'm sure they'll sort it out. I haven't experienced any issues myself.

Who are you dealing with there?

I'm waiting on their response as we speak.
I'm not gonna tell names. I don't think that is appropriate:)
Several permissions where changed and had lots of complaints because people can't upload pictures etc due to that. Also the sitemap doesnt render with these permissions.
Gladly xenforo system warns you when this happens!

To come back on this.
Matt has resolved the problem beautifully so my faith on them is back.
It had something to do with permissions (APC Cache Install) after optimisation the server.
Thanks guys for your responses!(y)

If this is a managed server then I would expect them to have been able to resolve this. If it is an unmanaged server then you shouldn't expect them to do much more than replace hardware and resolve network problems (not misconfiguration problems on the server itself). If it is unmanaged and they do more than that, consider yourself lucky because most will not - they advise you to get a management person or subscribe to their management services.

Like others, I've not had any issues with Nimbus support. That's not to say I have not had any problems with my sites, but they've been resolved quickly. There are usually teething problems after migration, I had a few, but it is worth mentioning the fact the migration service is free and they transfer everything (including files and data) AND get it all up and running AND sort out the domain transfers etc then iron out any problems.

Heck... even moving MY forums (3 myBB and 2 XenForo) from one server to individual VPS's I configured on my new one, I had problems that I had to go back in and resolve (that's doing the transfer myself) so if you get a perfect one then your lucky. There is always something that crops up.
