Hello,

If by "propose news" you mean allowing users to submit their own news for approval, this feature isn’t currently included. At present, only users with the necessary permissions can create and publish news directly.

We’ve noted your suggestion and will consider it for a future update. The idea would be that users without direct publishing rights could submit news into an approval queue for admins to review, while trusted groups could publish immediately.

To ensure your idea gets proper attention and tracking, we encourage you to post it in our site’s suggestions section.

That's an excellent question, and I'm so glad you're loving the add-on! :)

The key benefit of having both systems is flexibility. We designed it so you, the admin, can decide exactly how you want users to engage with your news stories.

Think of it this way:
  • Native Comments: These are the quick, on-page replies right below the article. They keep the discussion contained and focused directly on the content. They are fast, simple, and great for casual feedback.
  • Discussion Thread: This option is for deeper, more significant conversations. It leverages the full power of XenForo's forum system (prefixes, thread tools, detailed moderation, etc.).
Crucially, both are optional. You can choose to:
  1. Use only the native comments (and disable discussion threads in the news categories).
  2. Use only the discussion thread (and disable native comments via permissions).
  3. Use both.
  4. Use neither (for an announcement-only article/news).
It all comes down to your specific use case and how you want to manage community interaction.

No, it does not currently include that functionality.

If this is a feature you would like to see, please feel free to submit a suggestion in our suggestions forum for future consideration.

First of all, XF3 is still far away. I wouldn't even hold my breath tbh.

Second, no one knows how XF3 is going to look. The only thing we know is that the templates/styles are completely different.
 
These sites tend to last many years so it isn't unreasonable to ask the question. No sense in dead-ending a brand new site build on day one.

If the templates/styles will be completely different, then all the more reason to ask the question.

That's a totally fair question. We definitely plan on supporting our add-ons for the long haul. Just like we moved everything from XF 2.2 to 2.3, our goal is to keep things compatible with future releases like XF 2.4 and eventually XF 3.

We always suggest picking up an add-on based on what it offers today, and honestly, XF 2.3 is a fantastic, stable framework to build on right now. You can rest assured we intend to keep our products updated and running smoothly as the platform evolves.

📰 XenCustomize News Publisher v2.3.13 is released!​

We’re happy to release XenCustomize News Publisher v2.3.13, a major update focused on News Ticker improvements, native RSS export, better admin control, and performance optimization.

This version introduces native RSS export for both the main News Publisher index and news categories, along with new admin options to control feed availability, item limits, ordering, content mode, and thumbnail inclusion. This makes it much easier to syndicate your News Publisher content to RSS readers, aggregators, bots, and external services.

A large part of this update is dedicated to the News Ticker. Admins now have much more control over how the ticker behaves, including headline limit, cache lifetime, autoplay interval, thumbnail display, source categories, heading visibility, and mobile-specific thumbnail handling.

We have also added a new account preference option that allows users to hide the ticker when the admin chooses to allow that flexibility.

Behind the scenes, v2.3.13 also delivers an important performance upgrade to the News Ticker. Its loading flow, query handling, visibility filtering, caching strategy, and indexing have all been improved to reduce unnecessary database overhead and make ticker usage much more efficient, especially on larger sites.

To make all of these growing features easier to manage, the News Publisher options page has also been reorganized into clean tabbed sections, including dedicated areas for News Ticker and RSS Export settings.

This is a strong and meaningful update for News Publisher, bringing both powerful new capabilities and quality improvements across the addon.
