when the site goes responsive how will that make the gallery look if it is my front page of my site?
The gallery as the front page on responsive? Only Chris can answer that as he would need to tweak the XMG templates & CSS to accommodate the responsive screen options.

You can try today if you've got a mobile device; just go to Chris's demo site and click the "Add Media" option while in the gallery to see what your device options are. On my Android phone I got the standard Android selection popup asking me where to select the file from. Even though "Camera" is listed it isn't a valid option since a responsive style doesn't talk to the device directly, it is just HTML like the full style is, instead I can browse from the "Gallery" of existing images to select one & upload.

Soooo how close are we to the 1.3 release? :D
A little more than "not long" but not as much as "a long time" :p

Also would it be fairly simple to set up the media gallery as my home page on my forum?
Yeah just use Jake's Route Changer add-on to change the default route prefix xenmediagallery to index.

You would also need to change the built in route changer option from its default "media" to "index"

Last question of the day: When XF1.2 comes out and sites are responsive, will users be able to add pics to the media gallery from their mobile device? This would be HUGE.

As @Kevin rightly says, you can already do this without responsive. I only own an iPhone but something that Kevin might find interesting is that with iPhone when I click the upload button, I am able to choose an existing file or take a photo with my camera right there and have it uploaded to the gallery. As with any device, functionality will vary from device to device but there's nothing to stop it from working on a mobile, nor would adding a responsive theme make it any more functional (other than it being easier to use on the smaller screen e.g. less scrolling and zooming). In fact, up until about a year ago, you couldn't even upload photos to web pages using iOS. This is quite a new feature that Apple provided access to (finally).

For the record, the Gallery already looks pretty good on Arty's responsive styles and add-on framework. I have not made any changes for it but I will be focusing on making sure the Gallery looks as great as possible in the default Responsive style.

What about when you remove the built in route changer feature? Will I still be able to use the media page as my index?

Hi Chris, thank you for you reply earlier. Also there seems to be a small compatibility issue between the add-on and the soft-responsive theme I am using. In the forum home page if I enable the random media / new media box, the media thumbnails are not correctly aligned plus they don't appear in the box like other items.

I've attached the screen shot below for when the random media is enable for top location:

Because it does not look aligned when the location is no top, I have currently chosen the bottom location which now looks better. You can see that if you visit my site: http://www.christianforumsite.com

Can you advise me what I should do? Thank you.

You should contact Arty for support in that instance.

I have tried to take a look and I can't quite get it right.

I think the key thing is, Arty has done a great job making the node lists look great but there's some pretty standard XenForo CSS classes that I use which his style doesn't make any changes to.

He may be able to advise on some quick fixes to get a better result.

So I recently went live with this and noticed the counters don't update...

Top Contributors for example will still read X amount even after someone soft deletes something. And hard deleting it later it will still read as individual has X items.

I have partially fixed this in 1.3, can't replicate the rest.

There was indeed an issue whereby the count isn't updated if media is soft deleted. That has been fixed. Of course subsequently it increases the media count if the item is restored.

In my testing as far as I can tell hard deleting media has always decremented the count and adding media has always incremented the count.

There is a Rebuild User Media Count option in the Admin CP > Tools > Rebuild Caches.

This should repair the user media counts.

That part fixed the number issue. Would have expected it to do it on its own, but no matter.

Do it on its own?

Why?

There's a bug which has been fixed in 1.3 which should now mean counts are accurate, but the rebuild is there in case things go wrong or some other factors affect the count (e.g. manual database alterations).

I have to make it a point not to shorten my replies.... I was accused recently of being to "lengthy" in them and clearly being short cause a miscommunication. Sorry @Chris Deeming

What I meant was I was expecting that a hard delete would automatically update on its own (in the counter). But that hasn't been what I've seen. I understand that is why you included a rebuild option, which is good for cases like this.

I look forward to the bug fix in 1.3 which should resolve the issue with soft deleted items and hopefully, though you couldn't confirm the hard delete issue, it may also fix things on my end.
