I really want this but not sure if I should use the Xenmedio separate or use both of these addons. Reason being is because I have in Xenmedio 32,146 views, 127 videos etc. - Dont want to lose my stats in that addon.....but really want this as a photo addon.....

What is your recommendation Chris? Is there a way to import all the Xenmedio content (along with comments etc.) into your addon?

Or should I use both addons? - my site: www.truckmountforums.com - as you can see i have zero space in the navbar lol

Word of caution. Xenmedio and this add-on, by default use the same path /media/

This caused all sorts of problems when the two were installed together. And changing the path, I don't think solved the issue. Had to uninstall both to get things working again (if I recall).

Wait for the importer like me? :)

@surfsup,

@Adam Howard is incorrect. The two add-ons can be used together. The default Route for Xen Media Gallery is actually "xenmediagallery" so you can use the built in option or Jake's Route Changer add-on to change "xenmediagallery" to "gallery" or whatever you prefer.

I have removed this function from future versions, though, so ultimately you would need to choose between them or wait for importers (like @Rho Delta).

I'm confused now. When I installed your add-on originally; everything pointed to /media/ and I was getting all sorts of little issues.

Bad install? Or did you change something in one of the updates?

The add-on's default route prefix is "xenmediagallery".

Built in to my add-on is some route changing functionality so that "xenmediagallery" can be changed to any other prefix. This is controlled by an option in the admin CP which is by default set to "media". In the event of any clashes, the option can be set to anything else.

That functionality has been in from the start.

I'm going to chuck it up as a bad install on my part and not your add-on.

I see those setting there now, but I didn't before..... So this is likely before I was cleaning house and may have been a conflict with something else. My bad (my fault). :(

It's fine. But quite honestly it's probably not a bad install either.

Yes, if you install Xen Medio, Xen Media Gallery and don't change the option from its default "media" to something else then you will experience issues. That's likely what happened and you maybe just overlooked that option or something. But it's very unlikely that there was anything "bad" in the install of either add-ons or your environment. Just an oversight, I guess.

1.3 of the Gallery won't have any built in route changing functionality.

So what exactly happens in 1.3? How else will I be able to keep the path /media/ without depending on a 3rd party add-on to change the route?

(I'm just filled with a million questions today @Chirs Deeming. lol )

The default route prefix will be media so you won't have any issue.

The issue will arise if you still want to run XenMedio and Xen Media Gallery side by side. They will clash.

But, the route changing functionality:

a) Had problems if other add-ons with route changing functionality were installed (XenForo bug limitation resolved in 1.2)
b) Extra code was necessary, therefore was difficult to maintain and not always bug free and potentially performance affecting
c) Some URLs would be broken unless they were formatted in the template in a specific way (not very clean code at all)

New and improved..... Sounds good to me. (y)

I will actually not wait for the importer. I will probably just uninstall my other album/media addons and jump on this once user albums are available. (Which I think Chris said will come before importers)

Incredibly :)

I'm working on a lot of other projects right now, e.g. for @Stuart Wright and the move of AVForums.com over to XenForo but a lot of work has been done so far and there's plenty more to go as well.

Here's a sneak peek at something "album" related:

Soooo how close are we to the 1.3 release? :D

Also would it be fairly simple to set up the media gallery as my home page on my forum?

Last question of the day: When XF1.2 comes out and sites are responsive, will users be able to add pics to the media gallery from their mobile device? This would be HUGE.

There is nothing to stop that now as long as the file is on their phone (as opposed to, for example, taking a picture on the fly using the camera to upload directly into XF).

when the site goes responsive how will that make the gallery look if it is my front page of my site?
