Nothing is planned for 2.2 yet.

Give me a chance ;)
When will it be ready? haha. Sorry couldn't resist.
I am really happy with the new release and find it amazing in terms of functionality and polish. I'm a fan.

I was askign because once video uploads are implemented I will be able to migrate from vb to xf. But I realize that the current release has been a massive undertaking and there is no plan for the immediate future.

Hello all,

is there still no importer for any gallery addon to import albums and pictures from phpBB3 Gallery Mod?

Thanks a lot,

Garfield

It has been suggested: http://xenmediagallery.com/threads/from-phpbb-2-x-3-x-importer.962/

I gauge the popularity of suggestions partially on how many likes they get and so far this one doesn't seem to have much interest at all.

Are there any importers from phpBB to other software that imports the gallery too? If, for example, there is an importer from phpBB to vBulletin and vBulletin Albums then you could do that import first and then import vBulletin to XF and then import the VB albums to XMG.

It may seem convoluted but there are often XenForo imports that have to use intermediate imports where a direct importer is not available.

My site currently runs PhotoPost Pro, but has a twist.

A few years ago, I made a decision to change the default data directory. I thought it would help protect me from those searching the default data directory. There seemed to be no issue with it until I migrated to XF. The conversion went fine, but I learned that while most images were fine older thumbnails didn't always link to their full-size versions properly.

Part of the problem was configuration inconsistencies, which I believe I've corrected. However, I also made few tweaks to PhotoPosts XF integration code.

So today, the thumbnails and medium sized images are in the default data directory. The full-size images are in the custom directory I set.

Do you think this would create a problem with the PhotoPost Pro Importer?

Is there a user permission for the Download Media button?
Yes.

Whatever path you have configured in the options will be where the full size images are taken from. So no problems there.

Thumbnails are regenerated so again no problems there.

Ok let's say I don't have permission to use the Download Media button. Can't I simply go around this and right-click the image and save it? Seems like image shown is simply a scaled down by the browser, but the image itself is original.

That's correct.

Only two sizes (currently) are available. Thumbnail and original.

This may change in the future.

Thanks for the explanation. So I guess the Download Media button with no permission for users won't be useful if they can get around it.

Would it be an overkill if there are more sizes, such as thumbnail/small, medium, and large/full (like how XF does with its avatars)? After they click on the thumbnail, it will land them on the page where it'll display the medium image instead of the large scaled down one. It'll even load faster since the medium file size will be smaller. From there, the Download Media would be useful on whether they can download the original full size image or not.

This is my last suggestion and hopefully it'll be implemented in future versions, which will expand the Download Media function somewhat. When a user Add Media (images), it'll be great if there's a checkbox that states that the following uploaded images are simply different resolutions of the same image. Then when some user clicks/hovers over the Download Media button, it'll create a dropdown list that will show what resolutions are available and they can download that specific one. This idea came from wallpaper gallery sites.

Maybe I should post this suggestion in XMG's main site.

Hello Chris!

Now I have a problem ;-) I have to explain in English what I mean^^ and my English is not wery vell ;-)

I'll try:

Counting the likes in your own forum for the media gallery could be a mistake.

Me for example - I would directly buy your gallery if there would be an importer for the phpBB gallery. Because there is no such importer I continue looking for another gallery with this importer. If i find one with an importer, I will buy this other one, not yours.

If I see, that there is no importer for phpBB in your gallery addon, I see no need to register in your forum to give a thread a like (how can I know that there is the possibility that you count likes for a single thread to see if there is a need for a phpBB gallery importer).

I often read in some XF support forums that people are looking for a phpBB gallery importer to XF.

I hope I said this friendly, and you understand what I mean. Like I said, my English is not really good (never learned it, I am German).

Thanks a lot for your answer, Chris.

The problem with that approach is, if everyone thinks the same, then there will never be any obviously visible support for suggestions.

Which means it is less likely to be considered, or at the very least, it will be pushed to the bottom of the pile.

Thanks for your comments, Garfield.

I get a lot of suggestions. And I need some way of gauging how popular they are. The "Likes" isn't the only thing I gauge this on. I've implemented plenty of suggestions based on people contacting me directly, or posts made here, or even posts I've seen on other sites I'm not even a member of.

The number of likes is only a guide. I would still encourage people to make suggestions at my site, and to register and show their support for those suggestions. It is not mandatory. If one person likes a suggestion at my site then a further 100 people mention to me by other means that a suggestion is important to them it certainly won't go unnoticed.

It will most likely get done. But of course I'm focusing on getting 2.1 finished first.

Hello Chris!

Thanks a lot, "...will most likely get done" sounds good to me.

Can you give me an answer to one last question:

I converted from phpBB 3.0, and many of my users had gallerys there with a lot of pictures.

If I buy and install your gallery now, what will happen if a member creates a new personal gallery, and later I import old galleries?

So what I want to say is, there should be a possibility to assign imported pictures or gallerys to a member, or - even better - this should happen automatically.

...OMG, this is difficult to write :-P

Regards,

Garfield

When you imported from phpBB you were given the opportunity to create an import log. You need to remember what you named that as it will be used eventually in the later import from phpBB gallery to Xen Media Gallery.

When you import the old galleries, they will get assigned to the original member (that's what the import log is used for).

If your members have already added new media then importing the old stuff will not affect the new stuff. So eventually they will have all their new stuff and all their old stuff.

Thumbnails are regenerated so again no problems there.

I checked some of the oldest images and it seems the originals are consistent in my site, so that is good news.

What about the image comments and ratings within PhotoPost Pro, are they imported as well?

OK. So I was viewing someone gallery and inside their gallery, I decided to mark ALL media viewed. I was presented the option to either mark all media in that gallery OR all media everywhere.

I know that there was more else where, so I checked the everywhere option. Got a nice little popup with this error.
