XF 1.5 Why do link forums redirect?

Why is it that link forums redirect to the target URL, and not include the URL directly in the page source?

What I mean is the link in the page source is to the name of the link node e.g.

href="link-forums/name-of-link-node.12/"

and there is (I presume) some kind of 301 redirect to the actual link.

OK, it's just that I was warned against using internal 301s for SEO, not sure how important that is. I think if there are loads of them it can maybe not be good.
